Inter Milan predicted lineup for 2023-24 season
Champions League finalists will look to win the Scudetto this season
Inter Milan showed a lot of promise last term, especially with their run to the Champions League final. Nevertheless, they didn’t show enough quality in the league, they lost 12 Serie A games last term and despite of that Inter finished in third and was able to qualify for the Champions League next season.
Simone Inzaghi prospered in the cup competitions and was able to win both the Coppa Italia and the Supercoppa Italiana. Inter have lost some key players ahead of the new season, Onana and Brozovic are two of the players who have left Inter.
With new signings and some old players, Inter Milan can possibly line up like this:
Goalkeeper- Yann Sommer
Sommer is expected to slot straight in for Onana in between the sticks after Onana decided to leave to play under Erik ten Hag at Manchetser United. Sommer has left Germany having played 291 matches throughout the course of his career in the Bundesliga.
He won the Bundesliga title with the Bavarians in the last season, he came in as a replacement for Manuel Neuer and has joined Inter as a replacement for Onana. The Swiss custodian is a world-class shot stopper, one of the most agile in the business.
Centre-back- Matteo Darmian
Inter likes to play with centre-backs which gives them more stability in the midfield. Darmian, the former United man has regained his form since he arrived to the Serie A from the Premier League. Darmian started as a right-back for the club and has settled in the back three after Skriniar suffered injury last season, he played 31 matches for the club in the Serie A and was a part of the Champions League finals squad.
Centre-back- Francesco Acerbi
Nearly 10 years ago, Acerbi was diagnosed with testicular cancer and it proved his awakening as a footballer and a person. The vastly experienced defender joined the Nerazzurri last summer on loan from Lazio and played almost every match, his effectiveness on the field allowed Inter to sign him on a permanent basis. The 35-year-old Italian proved to be a reliable presence at the back as he usurped his former Lazio teammate Stefan de Vrij to become the first choice of Simone Inzaghi’s three-man defense.
Centre-back- Alessandro Bastoni
Italy international Bastoni, 24, has become a fixture on the left side of Inter’s three-man central defense and played 46 times in an eventful campaign. He has extended his contract at Inter Milan which will allow him to provide depth to the squad. His decision making and positional awareness are impressive attributes of his game, he is cool and collected on the ball. With his sweet left foot, he is already considered one of the best long-range passers in European football.

Left-wing back- Federico Dimarco
The Italian left-wing back was one of the most consistent players for the Nerazzurri during their Champions League final run in the 2022-23 season. Dimarco is under contract with Inter until the end of June 2026 but his performances last season have gained attention of clubs like Manchester United and Real Madrid, who are looking to strengthen their left- wing back position.
Federico Dimarco was just another forgotten boy of the Nerazzurri youth system but now, his performances are making many in football realise that he is one of the best left-wing backs in Italy and in the world. The 25-year-old can take free kicks, corners, and penalties and his intelligent movements even help him to score goals.
Centre-midfield- Nicolo Barella
The 26-year-old has been a key player for Inter Milan over the years and played a key role in their run to the Champions League finals last season. He is a specialist central midfielder who can play in a box-to-box role, he has registered 20 goals and 44 assists for Inter Milan in 187 games across all competitions. He is capable of playing anywhere in midfield, and has even been used as an attacking midfielder or as a defensive midfielder, Arsenal are really looking to sign the midfielder looking at how vital he can be to a squad.
Centre-midfield- Hakan Calhanoglu
The former AC Milan star joined Inter as a free agent in 2021 and he did not need time to adapt to his new surroundings, he has impressed everybody at the club with his performances. Calhanoglu is very close to how Luka Modric and Kevin de Bruyne play, he certainly one of the more gifted shooters of the ball in Europe and scored against his former club in the semi finals of the Champions League. He has even agreed a contract extension with the club till 2027.
Centre-midfield- Davide Frattesi
The 23-year-old midfielder is a player to watch in the 2023-24 season and has been linked with a move away from Sassuolo for some time. He managed to score seven goals last season for the Neroverdi and will be looking to push in Inter Milan’s squad after he agreed to join the club as a Brozovic replacement.
He is the definition of a proper box-to-box midfielder and ranks amongst the players in Europe’s top-five leagues for touches in the attacking and defensive penalty areas respectively.
Right-wing back- Denzel Dumfries
Denzel Dumfries has made it to the list ahead of Cuadrado, the Colombian who joined Inter Milan from Juventus. Dumfries will play ahead of the experienced Colombian as he is more adapted to their style of play but will face immense competition at his particular position.
Dumfries is a strong attacking threat, constantly getting forward and causing issues for the opposition. He has always operated as part of a back three/five system, which lends him the entire flank to operate himself. Even though he is not quite as impressive without the ball he is still very good in one-on-one abilities.
Striker- Lautaro Martinez
Lautaro Martínez is a World Cup winner with Argentina, plays as a striker for Inter Milan. He has been given the captain band ahead of the new season, is one of the most promising young players in world football, and one of the best strikers in the world.
Martinez’s style of play is characterized by his agility, quickness, and clinical finishing in front of goal. He is also known for his tireless work rate and ability to press the opposition defenders, making him a valuable asset in the attacking phase as well as the defensive phase.
Striker- Marcus Thuram
The 26-year-old son of French World Cup winner Lilian Thuram joined Nerazzurri on a five-year contract after spending four seasons with Borussia Monchengladbach in which he scored 44 goals and provided 29 assists in 134 appearances.
Thuram’s movement is one of his greatest strengths – his bursts of pace and explosive moments are often too quick for his opponents. He holds his position well, and he does not always get drawn towards play, but instead adopts positions that makes it difficult for defenders to see both him and the ball.
