Jamaica offer Mason Greenwood chance to switch allegiances from England to 'revive career'

The 21-year-old has made just one appearance for England.
Mason Greenwood was last seen playing football when he was a part of Manchester United’s squad. After that, he was accused of rape and sexual assault and has not been seen in action since January 2022.
Fast forward to February 2023, all charges against him ere dropped due to “withdrawal of key witnesses” and “emergence of new evidence”. Since then, speculation about whether he would come back to Old Trafford began, for a moment it felt that the 21-year-old might be seen in a United shirt again. However, when news that United might be considering a comeback for him was revealed, it was met with immense public backlash.
After weeks of speculation and an internal United investigation lasting 6 months, it was revealed that the club and the player would eventually be parting ways as the striker’s history was deemed unfit to be associated with the club. On top of that, the intense public and media scrutiny would be detrimental to the players career rebuild.

Since announcing that he will be leaving the club, the striker was linked to a move away with clubs like A.S Roma and Saudi Club Al-Ettifaq. However, both the clubs came out and publicly said the news to be merely rumours, with Al-Ettifaq going as far to call it fake.
Mason Greenwood is also not expected to be seen for Gareth Southgate’s England in the upcoming Euro 2024, however as Southgate’s contract with the Three Lions is set to expire as soon as the Euro’s end, the decision might not be his after all.
Greenwood has been approached by Jamaica with an offer to switch allegiances from England to them. This is the second time he has been approached by Jamaica to play for them. The first approach came in 2021 when the FA moved quickly to make sure he stays at England.
However, with club options running out for Greenwood, the Jamaica offer might be his last chance to salvage his international career.
FIFA rules will allow the change, as Greenwood has only made 1 competitive appearance for the Three Lions.
