The Blaugrana are set to use funds from Ousmane Dembele’s exit to sign Manchester City fullback

According to Fabrizio Romano, Joao Cancelo has agreed on personal terms to join Barcelona and the Spanish club is set to hold talks with Manchester City over the versatile fullback signing.

This follows a story that claimed Barcelona had started negotiations with Manchester City regarding Cancelo.

Although it was anticipated that Barcelona’s wish to sign the Portuguese right-back on a loan deal would be a sticking point in negotiations, it now looks that the Catalans have found a solution, possibly with the assistance of agent Jorge Mendes.

The Portuguese agent who is tight with Joan Laporta, will probably be crucial in the discussions.

Barcelona are anticipated to make a few decisions in the realm of transfers as they prepare for the departure of Ousmane Dembele.

The majority of them will involve the purchase of an additional right-back, with Joao Cancelo appearing as coach Xavi Hernandez’s top choice.

The Catalans’ pursuit of the Manchester City star first seemed to be a difficult task, but it appears that progress is being made in the talks.

Ousmane Dembele will be transferred from the defending La Liga champions to Paris Saint-Germain after the French club activated his €50 million (£43 million/$54 million) release provision on Tuesday. The team intends to sign Cancelo using some of the Dembele funds.

Pep Guardiola allegedly has the Portuguese international in the sights for the season to come as a result of his outstanding performance in the preseason friendlies, thus signing him might turn out to be a difficult task for Barcelona.

If Manchester City ultimately decides to keep Cancelo on staff, Barcelona will turn their attention to another lengthy target, Ivan Fresneda of Real Valladolid.
