Injury struggles continue to bother Erik ten Hag

Manchester United have now lost two of their key players already-Luke Shaw and Mason Mount. Mason Mount’s position is covered with Eriksen but Luke Shaw cannot be replaced in this United side. However, the left-back suffered has suffered an injury which will keep him away for a couple of weeks. He has been in the starting lineup for the last 12 months, he even started the first two games of this year’s Premier League.

With Brandon Williams, who joined Ipswich Town on loan, and Alex Telles joining Al Nassr, United’s only left-back option is Alvaro Fernandez. He has never made a senior appearance for the Reds in a competitive fixture, and spent the last season on loan at Preston North End.

United are exploring short-term deals to sign a left-back, here are few options Manchester United are looking forward before the transfer window ends:

5. Ryan Bertrand

Bertrand left Leicester City after they suffered relegation last season, he is a free agent and has been a part of the Premier League for sometime now and is not short of experience in the Premier League. He has over 260 appearances in the league, scoring seven goals and registering 19 assists.

He can join his former teammate Johnny Evans, Evans left the same club and since his arrival at United, he has impressed Erik ten Hag. Bertrand could therefore reunite with the 35-year-old if United opt to act on their initial interest.

4. Owen Wijndal

The 23-year-old was signed by Ajax following Erik ten Hag’s departure last summer, the Dutch manager is known for recruiting players from his former side. Wijndal signed five-year-deal with the club, he played 28 matches last season and has not started a single game this season.

He is a creative full-back, producing a high attacking output, and could be tempted by the pull of the Premier League if United came calling. It’ll be a tough decision to make, after Luke Shaw’s return he will probably face less of playing time again.

3. Marcos Alonso

The 32-year-old Spanish fullback ended his six-year spell at Chelsea to join Barcelona, he appeared in 154 appearances for Chelsea throughout his tenure at the club, known for his excellent free-kick abilities and one of the sweetest left-foots in the world, he can prove to be a vital addition to this United side.

In a summer transfer window that has continually seen shock transfers, Marcos Alonso is the latest name linked to Manchester United. The Barcelona defender has been mentioned as one of the options for the Premier League club.

2. Sergio Reguilon

Sergio Reguilón
Reguilon has not played for Tottenham since April 2022

United considered a move for Reguilon three years ago but opted to sign Alex Telles instead. Reguilon, 26, has not played for Tottenham since April 2022 and spent last season on loan at Atletico Madrid. Another Spanish left-back who is on the list of the club’s possible transfer, Tottenham can send him on loan to get more time under his name in this new season.

He has been replaced by the 20-year-old Italian Destiny Udogie in the lineup, Ange Postecoglou will prefer him over the Spaniard, Reguilon will decide where he wants to play if approached by Manchester United. His time at Spurs, however, has failed to work out.

1. Marc Cucurella

It’s looking increasingly likely that United will procure the services of a left-back before the transfer window closes in a few days and Cucurella is the preferred left-back for Manchester United. He joined Chelsea from Brighton last season and is no longer the first-choice player on the left-flank for Pochettino.

The Red Devils are desperate to sign a left-back before the window ends, before Chelsea, he was named Brighton’s Player of the Season after a stunning 38-game run. City also came for this player last season, he could now end up being on the other side of Manchester.
