Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami to face Nashville in Leagues Cup final
Inter Miami defeated Philadelphia Union 4-1 in semi-final
Lionel Messi’s dream run in Florida seems to be never ending. In just 6 appearances, he has accumulated 9 goals and has made Inter Miami a serious contender for the Leagues Cup title. For the first time in their history, Inter Miami have qualified for the finals of a tournament. They achieved this feat after a thumping 4-1 win in the semi-final over Philadelphia Union.
Inter Miami were dominant throughout the game, with Martinez opening the scoring in just the third minute. Messi then added to the scoreboard after scoring a Golazo in the 20th minute when he rocketed the ball into the bottom left corner of the goalpost from a considerable distance. Jordi Alba scored in the dying embers of the first half. Making sure that Inter Miami head into the second half with one foot already through the gate.
Philadelphia did manage to pull one back when Bedoya scored in the 73rd minute. However, by then it was conceivably late to stage a comeback, as 23-year-old Daivd Ruiz scored in the 84th minute to seal Inter Miami’s victory at Subaru Park.

Inter Miami are now set to face Nashville SC at the Geodis Park on 20th August in what will be their first final in history. Nashville SC qualified for the final after besting Monterrey with the scoreline reading 0-2. Former Bournemouth and Nottingham Forrest striker Sam Surridge opened the scoring in the 67th minute, which was followed by a goal from Fafa Picault in the 90+6 minute, closing the game.
Lionel Messi will have the chance to win his first trophy for Inter Miami in what will be just his 7th appearance for the team. The way he is scoring, he is already on route to become Inter Miami’s most prolific goalscrocer. A record currently held by Gonzalo Higuain with 29. In 6 appearances, Messi already has 9.
