Manchester City predicted lineup for 2023-24 season
Gundogan out, Kovacic in for the upcoming season
Manchester City lifted their first-ever Champions League trophy at the end of the 2022-23 campaign after securing the Premier League and FA Cup title wins. Pep Guardiola’s successfully became the second manager with English club to achieve a treble after Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United.
City are determined to continue their successful spell after signing a contract extension with the head coach Pep Guardiola. Kovacic is set to continue his tactical role at Manchester City alongside Kevin De Bruyne and Rodri.
Here’s how Manchester City could possibly look in few weeks:
Goalkeeper- Ederson
Ederson is the fourth most expensive goalkeeper currently, largest any club has paid for a Benfica player. Former Manchester City goalkeeper Shay Given described Ederson as “the best goalkeeper in the world with his feet” in 2018; his range of passing has also led to him be described as a playmaker in the media. Ederson will look to impress in the coming season as well.
Left-back- Josko Gvardiol
RB Leipzig and Manchester City have agreed a deal, and the deal does not contain any add-ons related to performance or success. Gvardiol, 21, is due to have his medical at the end of this week and City are hoping to officially announce the transfer by the end of the week or after the Community Shield fixture against Arsenal on Sunday, he will become the second most expensive defender of all time.
Centre-back- Ruben Dias
Ruben Dias also joined City from Benfica, stating that Benfica has helped Manchester City achieve all the success in the recent times. He was involved in almost every match for City, his defensive interceptions and blocking shots are the attributes that impressed Pep and he hasn’t disappointed till now. City have a main man now at the back after club legend Vincent Kompany.
Centre-back- John Stones
Stones, who particularly played as a defensive midfielder for the later half of the season will play alongside Dias at the back after City managed to sign Kovacic. Stones is a versatile defender and he clearly proved everybody that he has good sense and ball control, he can make plays and dictate the pace of the game, just the way Pep likes.
Right-back- Kyle Walker
The England international has been a consistent part of Pep’s squad, he has got the pace to chase to attackers and recover the ball as soon as possible which is exactly how City plays. Bayern Munich have shown interest in him and there’s a possibility that he might leave as we come close to the end of summer transfer window.

Centre-defensive midfielder- Rodri
Rodri won the Champions League last season and just few days after winning the Champions League he went on to join his country, Spain, he helped them too to win the UEFA Nations League, where they beat Croatia in the final. Rodri’s goal in the Champions League won the trophy for Pep, Rodri has a persona of somebody that can change games in seconds.
Centre-attacking midfielder- Matteo Kovacic
The Croatian’s arrival from Chelsea has been the Blues only signing so far this window despite losing the likes of Riyad Mahrez and Ilkay Gundogan. He made 27 Premier League appearances for the Stamford Bridge club last season yet he was one of several players to be sold, he will be able to split open the opposition from a defensive position, something De Bruyne can’t do. He has something that Manchester City didn’t have for a long time now, the ability to break the last line of defense.
Centre-attacking midfield- Kevin de Bruyne
It is going to be interesting to watch KDB next season because he will get the authority to roam around the pitch more due to the midfield stability, which in return will help City score more goals as he is the orchestrator of the club’s attack. Nobody in this world has the quality to produce assists every matchday with not being intercepted and his inch perfect balls.
Left-wing- Jack Grealish
Grealish has transformed into a better player since coming to City, he has settled well in the squad, even though he was an irregular starter, he has made his way into the playing XI of a packed City squad. Grealish has permanently cemented his place at the left-wing, he will look to do the same in the upcoming season and bring more trophies.
Striker- Erling Haaland
The goal-machine will be back at it again in a week’s time. Haaland has filled up the gap so well since his arrival in last summer, he has adjusted to the physical part of the Premier League which we all know is something that separates Premier League from other leagues in Europe. There’s a possibility Haaland can win the Ballon d’Or, only Messi has achieved all the laurels required to be eligible for winning the Ballon d’Or.
Right-wing- Phil Foden
It was a tough choice to choose between Bernardo Silva and Phil Foden but Silva’s ongoing talks of leaving the club are still alive and Foden proved his worth when he came off the bench in the Champions League final. Foden has had a long journey from being the ball boy for the club to achieving everything possible only at the age of 23. If Silva plans to stay it’ll be tough for Foden to make his way into the Playing XI ahead of the Portuguese.
