Top 10 outside shouts to consider for FPL 2023-24
Liverpool and Arsenal players outshine the rest of the Premier League in their pre-season fixtures.
Clubs across the Premier League are continuing their pre-season preparations with less than two weeks away to go until the curtain raiser. While the summer friendlies are there to build fitness and allow new signings to bed in, they also provide ample opportunities for players to play their way into some early-season form. Therefore, pre-season games provide an invaluable opportunity for teams to build chemistry and for players to refine their skills and get on the same page as a unit.
Pre-season friendlies not only improve the performance of players but also help foster a sense of unity among teammates. As with every year, a number of players do just that and this season, we have a mix of popular Fantasy Premier League (FPL) assets and some more under-the-radar names to consider. Let’s take a look at the top 10 outside shouts to consider for FPL 2023-24:
10. Antony (Manchester United) – £7.0m
The Brazilian international has been through a rocky first season at United since his move from Ajax. After his move, he was able to score in 03 matches since his debut match but struggled throughout the season until March. Now his performance at the Pre-season tour, he has really made his mark with a string of assists and goals against Lens and Dortmund.
He looked like his former self who felt comfortable around the ball and made some exquisite passes that split the defenses open. His price is another factor to give him a chance in your team given United’s easy game fixtures.
9. Luis Diaz (Liverpool) – £7.5m
Last season, Diaz missed six months with a knee injury. He returned for the run-in but was always likely to be a bit rusty. Now, the Colombian winger has recovered and is starting in the heavy-weight team sheet available for Klopp, throughout the pre-season he has scored or assisted in every match he has appeared in and looks like the player ready to burst on the scene after his absence in the last season.
This also gives Klopp the boost and confidence to start him in the lineup. Luis Diaz dispatched a thumping finish to put the Reds back ahead on 66 minutes against Bavarians, though Josip Stanisic equalized and Frans Kratzig smacked in a stoppage-time winner to see Bayern collect the Singapore Trophy, presented by Audi and Standard Chartered Bank.
8. Elliot Anderson (Newcastle) — £4.5m
Finding a productive £4.5m midfielder is often a tough ask for FPL managers, but Anderson may be the answer having emerged as a surprise contributor for Newcastle through pre-season so far. The 20-year-old has contributed to seven goals for the Magpies and netted four times in just four matches, thrusting his name into managers’ thoughts. Notably, he shone in Newcastle’s recent matches against Aston Villa and Brighton in the Premier League Summer Series. Of course, there is a caveat that Anderson is vying for a position in a competitive midfield which could make him off-putting, but he is one to keep an eye on for the moment.
7. Kai Havertz (Arsenal) – £7.5m
He is another big signing this season for Arsenal along with Declan Rice and he seems to find his footing for the Gunners. He has already started in 5 matches and scored 2 goals against MLS All-Stars and Barcelona. He looks ready and in touch for his debut Premier League appearance for the Reds of London. He seems to be a good signing as he is just selected by 5.0% of managers and could be the trump card for getting fast returns in the initial game weeks.
6.Bukayo Saka (Arsenal) — £8.5m
Nothing surprising here. Bukayo Saka just seems to be going from strength to strength and has had a thoroughly impressive pre-season so far. Even on his worst day, Saka is still able to conjure up at least a couple of very good chances for his teammates. That speaks volumes of the level he is operating at. Saka appears to be picking up from where he left off last season and is showing why he is currently the most selected midfielder in FPL so far at 53 percent ownership.
The young winger has racked up two goals and assists apiece in his four of pre-season outings and it could have been more if he dispatched his penalty in Arsenal’s 5-3 win over Barcelona. Saka had already been an asset that managers would have been worried to go without due to the Gunners’ excellent opening fixtures and that will only solidify with his simmer showings so far.
5. Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) — £12.5m
Salah has been ticking along nicely over pre-season notching a goal and three assists in two matches so far. The Liverpool talisman did most of the damage in the Reds’ entertaining 4-4 draw against German club Greuther Furth where he contributed to three of his side’s goals.
Salah’s early ownership of just over 25 percent is still a decent amount, but it would be much higher without the expense and popularity of Erling Haaland (£14.0m), with plenty of managers siding with owning just the Norwegian instead. A solid draft is possible with both and Salah being the best midfield option, coupled with his productive pre-season, continues the seasonal trend of him being a superb pick.

4. Eberechi Eze (Crystal Palace) — £6.5m
Eze emerged as a key man for Palace last term and his production has continued right the way through the summer. With five goal contributions – a goal and four assists – the 25-year-old already looks to be one to consider as a potential enabler in midfield. There is also the prospect of penalty duty for Eze as a result of Wilfried Zaha’s departure to Galatasaray, making him an even more tempting asset.
He has been linked away from the Eagles but if he decides to stay, he will be the new star player for them after the departure of Wilfried Zaha. He has been involved in five of Crystal Palace’s pre-season goals so far, scoring once and assisting four. Eze has mesmerized fans with his incredible dribbling skills with the ball seemingly sticking to his feet as he glides past defenders with ease.
3. Jarrod Bowen (West Ham) — £7.0m
One of the most in-form players of pre-season so far, Bowen is the leading asset that could force his way into managers’ thoughts to start the campaign. The wide man has keyed three goals and three assists for the Hammers over the summer and is still very much a differential across the board.
The tricky nature of West Ham’s opening fixtures is one of the main reasons why Bowen is currently being overlooked, but a modest price tag and ownership just shy of six percent on the back of good form still makes him a solid option.
2. Nicolas Jackson (Chelsea) — £7.0m
While a lot of the talk has been on Christopher Nkunku (£7.5m), but it is their other signing making waves. Jackson has quietly emerged as a dark horse pick with some very promising showings this summer. The Senegal striker has notched five goal contributions – two goals and three assists – and was especially impressive in Chelsea’s 4-3 win over Brighton in the Premier League Summer Series.
He will have undoubtedly given Mauricio Pochettino some thinking to do in terms of securing a regular starting spot which could be a tasty prospect with ownership currently at 7.5 percent.
1. Darwin Nunez (Liverpool) — £7.5m
Nunez will be one player to keep an eye on this season as he looks to build on a decent first season at Liverpool, and is off to a nice start this summer. The Uruguayan has formed a good connection with aforementioned teammate Salah, with the pair combining for three goals in Liverpool’s draw with Greuther Furth. Like the Egyptian, Nunez has been involved in four goals with three of those coming in goal form, so there is definitely a lot to like about him heading into the new campaign.
Nunez has scored four goals in three games for Liverpool in their pre-season tour. He has been playing with confidence and looks like the kind of frontman Jurgen Klopp wants to spearhead his attack.
