Spain will face winner between co-hosts Australia and European champions England

Spain became the first team to reach the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 final after a victory over Sweden in the first semifinal clash.

Three goals were scored after the 80-minute mark and the match ended 2-1 in favour of the Spanish women’s national team.

Spain reach their first-ever Women’s World Cup final. They finished fourth in the 1997 edition, their best ever till today. Now La Roja will aim to clinch the title.

Sweden once again failed to reach the final after losing their fourth of the five semifinals played in the Women’s World Cup. They finished third in the 2019 edition.

The match was heading to extra time before substitute Salma Paralluelo scored a goal in the 81st minute. She replaced Alexia Putellas in the 57th minute.

Sweden pulled a goal back in the 88th minute and got back into the game. Another substitute player Rebecka Blomqvist scored a goal. She netted her third in the World Cup.

Olga Carmona broke Swedish hearts once again in the 89th minute and scored the winner to take her side to the final.

Spain kept more of the ball and created more chances than the opposition. Sweden also created some but were not enough to take them into the final.

Co-hosts Australia will face the European champions England in the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 second semifinal tomorrow. The Matildas reached their first-ever semifinal, while the English women finished third in 2015 and fourth in the 2019 edition.

Australia won their quarterfinal against France on penalties. England, on the other hand, defeated Colombia in their last-eight clash.

This time there will be a new World Cup winner and the Spanish women’s team is one step closer to glory. The men’s team won their first World Cup in 2010.
