The MLS club added three former Barcelona players in 2023.

In a span of just over five-and-a-half years, Major League Soccer‘s (MLS) Inter Miami have captured the imagination of fans across America and beyond. Nestled in the vibrant city of Miami and boasting a significant pedigree with David Beckham as its co-owner, this club promised excitement right from its inception.

While there were many sceptics who questioned the potential of yet another new club in the crowded American soccer scene, Inter Miami have swiftly dispelled doubts. A blend of young talent and seasoned professionals, the team offers a glimpse into the evolving landscape of MLS.

David Beckham’s venture, in particular, has proven that with the right vision, even a newcomer can quickly become a focal point in the league. Today, the narrative will revolve around those players who made Miami’s short yet impactful journey memorable.

In the heart of the game, it’s the goals that often capture the most attention. Let’s dive into the top goal-scorers who’ve donned the Miami jersey since its 2020 debut.

The top scorers in Inter Miami’s history:

10. Lewis Morgan – 7 Goals

The Scottish winger currently plays for New York Red Bulls in MLS. He was part of the Herons from January 2020 to December 2021. In just two years at the Miami club, Lewis Morgan made 58 appearances. In those outings, he scored and assisted seven goals each.

9. Robbie Robinson – 7 Goals

This 24-year-old, previously honoured with the Hermann Trophy in 2019, launched his Miami career in 2020. Though not a consistent starter, Robinson did show flashes of brilliance off the bench. In 58 appearances, he netted seven and assisted twice.

8. Diego Gómez – 7 Goals

Diego Gómez’s arrival in July 2023 was marked by a $3 million price tag. Over just a year or so, he has played 35 matches, scoring seven times. He even has nailed six assists apart from goals in those outings.

7. Matías Rojas – 8 Goals

Purchased from Corinthians in April 2024, Matías Rojas’s Miami tenure is still going well. So far, he has recorded eight goals and two assists in 17 matches. Four of those goals came in the 2024 MLS itself along with those two assists.

6. Josef Martinez – 12 Goals

Martinez, who was Lionel Messi’s striking partner for a brief period, was a formidable star player in the Inter Miami ranks. In 40 fixtures, he tallied 12 goals. He now plays for Montréal in the Eastern Conference.

5. Robert Taylor – 17 Goals

Taylor, acquired from SK Brann in 2022, has quickly become a staple in Miami’s attack. In 106 games, he’s scored 17 goals, showcasing impressive chemistry with Messi and Co. His contract runs out in late 2026.

4. Luis Suárez – 24 Goals

The impressive part of Luis Suárez‘s Inter Miami career is that he has been around for just a while. The January joined striker has already scored a massive 24 goals for his new club. That’s a lot from a 37-year-old. The former Liverpool forward is expected to continue scoring as long as he is here.

3. Gonzalo Higuain – 29 Goals

Undoubtedly, the third top scorer in Miami’s history is Higuain. In over 70 matches, this former Real Madrid and Juventus star has amassed 29 goals. After an illustrious career, he retired after his Miami chapter.

2. Leonardo Campana – 32 Goals

Since arriving from Wolverhampton in 2022, Campana has been a revelation. With 32 goals, his move from loanee to permanent player at just over $2.5 million has proved valuable. The Ecuadorian still has a contract with the Herons that lasts til 2027 December to score more goals.

1. Lionel Messi – 33 Goals

Even after just 36 games with Miami, Lionel Messi’s name resonates. Scoring 33 times, he’s already a club legend. This Ballon d’Or winner’s journey began with a free-kick stunner against Cruz Azul. Messi has been a revelation for Inter Miami. He scored a hat trick to become Inter Miami’s top scorer last game. The win against the New England Revolution also helped the Herons set a new MLS points record at 74 points.
