The Argentine’s team has qualified for the quarter finals of the Leagues Cup
Lionel Messi is showing no signs of slowing down. After joining MLS side Inter Miami, he has racked up seven goals in four games. All of Messi’s appearances for Inter Miami have come in the Leagues Cup, as he is yet to make is MLS debut. Messi played his first away game at the Toyota Stadium in Texas against Dallas FC.
The game was an important one as it decided qualification for the quarterfinals of the Leagues Cup. The game went down to the wire as the score board at the end read 4-4. Messi’s Inter Miami trumped FC Dallas on penalties to win the game.
Lionel Messi once again, was consequential in the game.
Lionel Messi opened the scoring in the 5th minute of the game. He converted an assist from near the corner flag on his left by longtime teammate Jordi Alba. Alba passed him the ball around the penalty arc and Messi drilled the ball into the bottom right corner of the goalpost.
Messi created a chance in the 31st minute when he passed the ball to Joseph Martinex in the box. Martinez had a clear view of the goal and went for a power shot. However, it was blocked by the goalkeeper as he came in front.
Messi again created a goal scoring opportunity in the 33rd minute when he tried to chip a rebound from the keeper over the defensive lines, he managed to beat the keeper, however a defender got in just in time to head away the ball.

In the 79th minute, Miami were awarded a free kick which was invariably taken by Messi. The free kick was intercepted by a keeper but was headed into the goalpost, making it an own goal.
Messi’s most magical moment in the game came in the 84th minute when he converted a free kick into one of his trademark goals. His free kick was the equalizer which made the scoreline read 4-4.
The game eventually went into penalties in which Messi scored again. Miami prevailed in the penalties and booked a spot in the Leagues Cup quarterfinals.
