Why Bruno Guimaraes wears number '39'
The Brazilian midfielder is also an Olympic Gold medalist
Bruno Guimaraes joined Newcastle United in 2022 and is now one of the fan favourites at St. James’ Park. Last season, the Brazilian played a crucial role in his side’s success. One of the most expensive signings has a story behind wearing the number ’39’ at the back.
Most of the midfielders wear numbers like 6, 8, and 10 and some wear their birth dates at the back of the shirt. But Bruno wears the number ’39.’
The 25-year-old has worn the same number at the club level. There is a special story that the midfielder recently revealed.
Bruno said, “#039 was the dispatch number of my father’s taxi in Rio de Janeiro.”
The midfielder also added, “The number tells a story more beautiful than words can say. 39.”
“I know people think it’s a weird number for a footballer. But for me 39 is special — no, it’s more than that. It’s magical. The number 39 gave me everything in life. It got me here to Newcastle. It fed me, clothed me, and paid for three-hour bus rides to pursue my dream.”
