Four Premier League teams make it to the list

Last season it was Pep Guardiola's Manchester City who lifted the UEFA Champions League title. Erling Haaland's goal-scoring prowess along with a stern 3-2-4-1 formation when in possession did the trick for Guardiola and co. City even completed a continental treble along with the Champions League trophy that had eluded them for years.

But that season is over. We have the 2023-24 season to look forward to. Newcastle United have been a dominant force in Premier League last term and are back to the big games.

Let's look ahead to how the Magpies and others stand in contention of lifting this season's Champions League in the order of their odds:

10. Atlético de Madrid: 33/1

The rival club to 14-time UEFA Champions League winners Real Madrid have forged themselves in contention. At a 33/1 odd they are standing in the tenth position for a chance of lifting the European top-tier title. Since we are done with the group stage draws, Atlético de Madrid have learned their opponents in Group E. Dutch side Feyenoord, Lazio from Italy and along with them joins Scottish Premiership champions Celtic Rangers to battle Diego Simeone's Madrid.

9. SSC Napoli: 25/1

Last season was euphoric for the Naples-based football club in Italy. A 90-point tally allowed them to lift the 2022-23 Serie A title. And their Champions League run was also resoundingly amusing to the fans. Even though AC Milan sent them packing bags in the quarter-final stages last term, the odds of 25/1 give them a standing of ninth and above the Milan club.

8. Newcastle United: 20/1

The Premier League crowd were bamboozled whenever the Magpies turned up on the pitch. After collecting a total of 71 points on the 2022-23 season's league table, they are back to the big times. Newcastle United have done a major coup in bringing the Italian talent Sandro Tonali to St James' Park. But they are set to be without the quick feet of Allan Saint-Maximin who was moved on to Saudi side Al-Ahli. Eddie Howe's team is set to odd at 20/1.

7. Manchester United: 16/1

The Red Devils of England made quite a few unorthodox moves during the summer. Letting go of David de Gea after first giving him hopes of a new contract was one of them. Another one would be the hefty transfer fee paid to recruit Mason Mount. Mount had just a year on his Chelsea contract left. Even though they have brought in Inter Milan's Andre Onana to replace de Gea and a striker in Rasmus Hojlund, they are way off Arsenal and Man City's respective odds for the Champions League title.

6. Paris Saint-Germain: 14/1

The Paris-based club was on a clearing spree within the squad this transfer window. The club allowed Neymar to join Saudi Pro League's Al-Hilal while Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos departed on a free after their contract ended. Even striker Mauro Icardi and midfielder Leandro Paredes were offloaded to Galatasaray and AS Roma respectively. But the Ligue 1 champions have managed to bring in the likes of Manuel Ugarte, FC Barcelona's Ousmane Dembele and FC Bayern's Lucas Hernandez. PSG still have Kylian Mbappe to provide hope as they odd in at 14/1.

5. FC Barcelona: 12/1

After Lionel Messi's intentions of not continuing at Paris Saint-Germain was on a high, FC Barcelona were heavily linked to bring him back. The wish however faded quickly after MLS side Inter Miami managed to bag in the seven-time Ballon d'Or holder Lionel Messi. However, the Blaugranas found a classy midfielder in the name of Ilkay Gündogan on a free. But the former Man City man knows Barcelona isn't the biggest team in Europe vying for the Champions League title at least for this season.

4. Arsenal FC: 10/1

Mikel Arteta has truly transformed the worldview about the Gunners side. A team that was almost looking to get out with the Premier League title last season found its place in the fourth spot as per odds. At 10/1, the Emirates Stadium-based side could be a tricky opponent for any team. Treble winners Man City were stunned in the Community Shield finals, so they can't be taken lightly now. With the new joiners Declan Rice and Kai Havertz, Arteta could fancy a shot in Europe all out.

3. Real Madrid CF: 8/1

Los Blancos are the biggest and most successful club in Europe. As if they are made for this Champions League competition. Striker Karim Benzema may have moved on to Al-Ittihad but manager Carlo Ancelotti knows what his squad is still capable of. An odd of 8/1 gives them a resounding chance of bringing back the UCL title from England. Former Borussia Dortmund man Jude Bellingham will be looking to star in this conquest for the Spanish giants.

2. Bayern Munich: 5/1

Harry Kane has left Tottenham Hotspur for a reason and that is to win big titles. Kane believes his search for trophies will be completed as he joined German giants FC Bayern Munich. Although the German club are placed just a rank below the most competent outfit as of now, we know they can still be beaten. RB Leipzig stunned them by a 3-0 tally in the DFL-Supercup. However, at a 5/1 odd Bayern are favourites of giving City a ride for all their riches.

1. Manchester City: 9/4

The treble winners dominated world football and even nudged a late domestic league title in their name. And even though after a full summer, we see many changes in the squad usually, City remained calm in the face of chaos. To manage the void of departed players like Riyad Mahrez, Aymeric Laporte and Ilkay Gündogan, City was able to bring in new faces to their ranks.

Pep Guardiola's side brought in Josko Gvardiol to do the centre-back duties. Similarly, Jérémy Doku and Mateo Kovacic will serve as a like-for-like replacement for Mahrez and Gündogan respectively. Sheikh Mansour-owned Man City are the best-ranked team on paper as well have the odds in their favour.
