East Bengal or Liverpool, we will express ourselves with the ball: FC Goa coach Manolo Marquez
FC Goa are currently unbeaten in this season's ISL
FC Goa is scheduled to go up against East Bengal on October 21, 2023, at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, following two consecutive and impressive victories.
In their inaugural match, FC Goa emerged victorious over Punjab FC with a scoreline of 1-0. They faced a tough challenge in their subsequent encounter against Odisha FC, ultimately prevailing with a margin of 3-2. On the other hand, East Bengal has already participated in three matches, securing a total of four points through a victory, a draw, and a loss.
Before the match at a neutral venue, a pre-match press conference was conducted, graced by the presence of FC Goa's coach, Manolo Marquez and player Carl Mchugh. The duo emanated a strong sense of confidence as they looked ahead to their forthcoming match.
Atmosphere in the dressing after first two matches
When inquired about this subject, Carl Mchugh exhibited a notable level of assurance while providing his response, he said “It has been a thoroughly pleasant and satisfying experience thus far. We have achieved two favorable outcomes, signifying progress. However, we are cognizant of the pressing need for continuous improvement within our team.”
“Despite these challenges, it is undeniable that the results have been positive. Moving forward, we are committed to enhancing our performance in order to sustain this positive momentum. Overall, we are off to an auspicious beginning”, he added.
Thoughts about the opposition
“East Bengal has made some noteworthy signings, both from India and abroad, and they are fortunate to have an experienced coach at the helm, stated by Carl.
He also made a point to be at their best against the opposition, as he said, “their commendable performance in the Durand Cup during the preseason indicates their potential strength. Therefore, it is evident that we must perform at our best if we aim to achieve a favorable outcome.”
Coach Manolo Marquez also didn’t back out pointing out his strong views regarding the next game. He stated, “We must strive to identify and analyze the key strengths of our opponents. Subsequently, it is imperative that we prevent them from capitalizing on any advantageous actions by the opposing team.”
“Finally, we ought to conscientiously adhere to our distinctive style of play. I emphasize, without exception, to every team under my coaching that regardless of the opposition, whether it be East Bengal or Liverpool, we will confidently and skillfully assert ourselves when in possession of the ball”, added by the coach.
Game at a neutral venue
The coach, Manolo Marquez looked quite optimistic while asking such a question. He said “When I used to be a player, my personal inclination was to perform in the presence of an audience, regardless of whether they were rooting for the opposing team. The experience of playing within the enclosed environment, known as the bubble, proved to be quite distressing for me. ”
“Football, after all, derives its essence from the presence and support of the people, the spectators who bring life and energy to the game. I would much rather compete in a single stadium, filled to capacity, even if the attendees happen to support East Bengal, than to play for FC Goa in an empty venue” he further expressed.
