ISL 2023-24: Top five performers from Gameweek 6

Some astounding individual performances rolled out across six fixtures in this past ISL gameweek.

Gameweek 6 of the Indian Super League (ISL 2023-24) was an action packed eight days of outstanding football, that saw a number of exciting outcomes unfurl.

Bengaluru struggled to put up points yet again, as they played twice but only managed a point in gameweek 6. Odisha saw a change in fortunes, as two gritty wins took them straight into the top four. Goa and Mohun Bagan both put up an incredible away performance, to get themselves another win. Mumbai and Kerala both got another win to their names. East Bengal, Hyderabad and Punjab continued to struggle with their results. 

With such gripping fixtures being played across the span of the last eight days, the ISL saw some truly astonishing and commendable performances that were worth every bid of appreciation. Keeping the outstanding displays by these top notch professionals in mind, we have gathered a list of the top five performers of gameweek 6 of the ISL 2023-24. So without any delay, let’s dive into the list.

5. Daisuke Sakai

Daisuke showed utmost quality and finesse against East Bengal, and dropped his best performance of the season (as of gameweek 6). The winger opened the scoring for Kerala Blasters in the first half, as he expertly controlled Luna’s diagonal ball, before cutting in to create space, and perfectly placing the ball into the right corner of the net. 

Daisuke’s contribution wasn’t only limited to the goal, as besides that the winger was very crisp with his passing. He also did the needful to help Kerala with their defensive duties. 

4. Sachin Suresh

Kerala Blasters ended their long-awaited away win drought against East Bengal in the most dramatic fashion possible, and due credit must be given to their guardian Sachin Suresh, who miraculously saved two penalties back to back, to send the away Manjappada fans into a frenzy. 

Sachin denied Cleiton from the spot not once but twice, and made other fantastic saves as well, to guide his team to a memorable win.

3. Liston Colaco

After weeks of involvement in the starting line-up, and constant backing of tactician Juan Ferrando, Liston finally seems to be getting back into his groove. The star winger, who had recently lost his flair, has sprung into life yet again. 

Listron was the best performer for Mohun Bagan in their win against Jamshedpur FC, and was heavily involved in the Mariner’s attacking endeavours. He completed four successful dribbles, and won 14 ground duels. 

Liston also showed incredible skill to ease his way past the midfield, and score an absolute stunner in the second half. 

2. Ryan Williams

Ryan Williams scored his first goal for Bengaluru FC in gameweek 6, and added to it just days later with another goal. The Aussie who struggled in his opening games, had an outstanding display in the two fixtures Bengaluru played in the past week. 

In the first game against Odisha, Williams played some incredible long balls that helped Bengaluru in the transitional play. He was also very crisp and creative in his play, and got his name on the scoresheet with an expertly finished goal.

The second game against Hyderabad saw an even more impressive bout by the winger, as he was the creative spark in a rather dull Bengaluru FC line-up, and scored an important equaliser to hand his team a draw. 

1. Jay Gupta

FC Goa claimed a comfortable 3-0 win against Southern foes Chennaiyin FC at the Marina Arena. Whilst the Gaurs had a number of star performers on the pitch, one player caught the eye of the fans the most, and made people speechless with his outstanding display. 

Starboy Jay Gupta, who slowly seems to be becoming FC Goa’s new posterboy, was incredible against Chennaiyin. The left-back wasn't only disciplined with his defensive duties, but was also energetic and effective whilst going forward. 

Jay had an assist to his name, and kept the likes of Connor Shields and Cristian Battocchio quiet throughout the entirety of the clash.
