The 2023-24 Indian Football season is up and running. The Indian Super League began in September followed by the latest season of the I-League. And while club football has started in full swing, the Indian national football team have also had a busy season so far.

As we all know that the ongoing season is expected to be one of the busiest and most happening seasons in the history of Indian Football. On that note, let us take a look at the excerpts of Khel Now’s Inside Indian Football’s episode number 104.

Arsene Wenger’s visit to India

Former Arsenal legend and global icon Arsene Wenger is all set to visit India on a five-day tour starting from November 19. The Frenchman is coming to India to help the AIFF undertake their grassroot level plans and execute them to perfection.

The AIFF will host all the ISL and I-league clubs in a special session during Wenger’s visit to the country. The three-time Premier League winning coach is also expected to be in attendance for India’s World Cup Qualifier against Qatar on November 21 in Bhubaneswar.

Anwar Ali’s Injury

The next big update in the episode was regarding the injuries of Indian national team duo Anwar Ali and Jeakson Singh. Anwar sustained a fracture during Mohun Bagan’s AFC Cup clash against Basundhara Kings where he had to be taken off on a stretcher.

The Indian international is expected to be sidelined for more than two months before he starts training again. His injury has ruled out his participation in India’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers and has put his participation in the AFC Asian Cup into question.

Jeakson Singh’s Injury

The story is even more disheartening for Jeakson Singh. The midfielder was taken off following an injury during Kerala Blasters’ ISL clash against Mumbai City FC. He sustained a shoulder injury and is expected to remain out of action for at least two months.

Jeakson is one of Igor Stimac’s most trusted lieutenants in the middle of the park and his absence will surely affect the national team. His injury has not only ruled him out of the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers but has also put his participation in the AFC Asian Cup in jeopardy.

Apuia’s return to the national team probables

With Jeakson Singh out of contention for the World Cup Qualifiers due to a long-term injury, India’s head coach Igor Stimac has turned his focus to Mumbai City FC’s golden boy Apuia Ralte. After missing out on national team action for quite some time, Apuia has been called up to the 28 men probables by the Croat.

Apuia is having a very good season with Mumbai City FC and has looked in good touch. And with Jeakson not available for selection, the former NorthEast United man can very well step up and fill in his boots. Let us wait and watch how things unfold.

Youth Leagues

The biggest update was about the AIFF’s youth league structure. From what we know, the AIFF is planning to start three youth leagues starting from December of this year. The first three leagues will be of the U-13, U-15 and U-17 category.

The U-13 league will be a 7v7 50 minutes affair with two halves of 25 minutes each. The U-15 category will see the players go up in a 9v9 game with two halves of 30 minutes each. And the U-17 category will be a full fledged 11v11 game with two halves of 40 minutes each. Moreover, the U-15 and U-17 league will also consist of the offside rules.
