Copa Interamericana will make a return after 1998

An ancient competition is poised for a rebirth in 2024, thus Inter Miami and Lionel Messi will be gunning for additional championships.

The Copa Libertadores was where Mexican clubs made their debut after the competition’s 1998 discontinuation, while other CONCACAF teams used their talents in the Copa Sudamericana. thanks to this season’s Copa Libertadores being won by Fluminense.

With the Copa Interamericana set to return, Lionel Messi will have an opportunity to add more trophies to his already amazing collection.

The CONCACAF Champions Cup and Copa Libertadores winners competed against one another in the inaugural Copa Interamericana, which was held from 1969 to 1998. It was a two-person match. Over the years, the competition’s participation requirements and format did, however, change.

There are currently preparations for the Copa Interamericana to come back; it is expected to begin in the following year. A four-club competition will be held to identify the top American squad from the previous season.

Champions of the CONCACAF Champions Cup (Club León), Leagues Cup (Inter Miami), Copa Libertadores (Fluminense), and Copa Sudamericana (LDU Quito) are among the participating teams.

The idea that Messi’s Inter Miami could play Club León adds even more suspense to the rumours surrounding this comeback for the supporters. This will provide both football legends with another opportunity to win additional trophies for their teams.

Marcelo and Fernando Diniz, meanwhile, guided Fluminense to their inaugural Copa Libertadores victory. The club had previously lost to LDU Quito in 2008 on its first trip to the competition’s final round. Since then, the Brasileiro team has advanced significantly.
