Celtic will attempt to continue their unbeaten start to the 2023-24 Scottish Premiership campaign

Celtic became unglued in midweek as they were emphatically defeated 6-0 against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, creating a result everyone included will want to forget. A first-half red card for Daizen Maeda left the Scottish outfit facing an uphill battle against their LaLiga opponents, this weekend the pressure is now on the defending Scottish Premiership champions as they will look to show their ability to fight back.

Aberdeen currently sit midtable in the Scottish Premiership, they won their last two league matches, scoring four goals against Motherwell and keeping a clean sheet against Hibernian, demonstrating their attacking prowess and defensive solidity. Three points could lead to the Dons making way to the top half of the Scottish Premiership table, but they will need to be the first team to defeat Celtic in the league this season to achieve that.

Kick-Off:

Sunday, 12 November 2023 at 2:30 PM GMT (8:00 PM IST)

Location: Celtic Park

Form

Celtic (all competitions): W-D-D-W-W-L

Aberdeen (all competitions): D-L-L-W-W-D

Players to watch:

Kyogo Furuhashi (Celtic):

The Japanese centre-forward is doing excellent under Brendan Rogers this season. In the Scottish Premiership, Kyogo Furuhashi has scored five goals and two assist in 12 games this season. The 28-year-old has two goals in 4 Champions League football as well. He leads the team with most goals scored in all competitions this season.

Bojan Miovski (Aberdeen):

Miovski has been a key player for Aberdeen this season, scoring important goals, he has also been a handful for defenders, with his physical presence and aerial ability causing problems. Miovski is certainly showing signs that he could be a prolific goalscorer in the Scotland top-flight side. He has 6 goals in 12 appearances in Scottish league and the Europa Conference League.

Match facts:

  • Celtic have scored the most goals and conceded the least goals in the Scottish league this season.
  • Celtic have eight point lead at the top of the table
  • Aberdeen are currently three matches without a defeat in all competitions.

Injury & team news for Celtic vs Aberdeen:

Despite his red card in the Champions League, Maeda will be available on Sunday, and it is likely that Rogers will keep him in the starting XI. The Hoops do have several injury problems to deal with though as Reo Hatate is out with a hamstring issue while Stephen Welsh and Liel Abada are also on the sidelines right now.

Bojan Miovski and Leighton Clarkson were both dropped from the starting lineup in Aberdeen’s midweek match, James McGarry and Shayden Morris each missed the Europa Conference League outing due to hamstring problems, and it is likely that this fixture will come too soon for them.

Head to Head

Total Matches – 56

Celtic wins – 47

Aberdeen wins – 5

Draws – 4

Predicted Lineup:

Celtic predicted lineup:

Hart; Johnston, Carter-Vickers, Scales, Taylor; Turnbull, McGregor, O’Riley; Palma, Furuhashi, Maeda

Aberdeen predicted lineup:

Roos; Devlin, Gartenmann, Rubezic, Jensen, McKenzie; Polvara, Shinnie, Barron, McGrath; Duk

Match prediction for Celtic vs Aberdeen:

Celtic will be determined to prove themselves after their disappointing loss to Atletico Madrid. This could lead to them playing more aggressively and with greater focus, which could be too much for Aberdeen to handle. Aberdeen are a good team, but they have struggled against Celtic in recent seasons.

Prediction: Celtic 2-0 Aberdeen
