Three Chelsea players to have scored a Premier League hat-trick against Tottenham

While Chelsea have had many greats of the game in their history, they have only had three players score hattricks against Spurs

The Premier League clash between Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea is always a major affair, with both clubs sharing the same city rivalry and fierce fans taking it to the next level. Chelsea have been more dominant in this rivalry, but Spurs have taken significant strides in the last decade.

As of this season, Tottenham Hotspur holds the 2nd spot in the league table, while Chelsea are 10th. Nevertheless, Chelsea shell-shocked Spurs by beating them 4-1 on their own turf in the last game, demonstrating the intense rivalry between the two clubs. That match also saw a hattrick by Nicolas Jackson which was the main headline in London on every platform

It is always a big milestone to score a hat-trick but in North London, it is an incredible feeling and so far only three Chelsea players have done so. Let’s take a look at three Chelsea players to have scored a Premier League hat-trick against Tottenham:

3. Tore Andre Flo (1997)

There are few names in English football as well known as Tore Andre Flo. His 19-year career has seen him make appearances for Sunderland, Chelsea and Leeds United. Flo entered English football with Chelsea only in 1997 when the Chelsea Football Club paid £300,000.

Flo had a terrific impact in his first season which involved his iconic hattrick against Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane in a 6-1 crushing victory. He became instantly famous among Chelsea fans, but he stayed at the club for only three years, as he struggled with the pace and the competition that was present in Chelsea’s strong squad. Flo retired in 2012 and is currently manager of Sogndal from 2022.

2. Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink (2002)

A well-known name in English football is Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, who has made his name as a player, TV expert, and now a coach. With his thrilling performances game after game, Hasselbaink immediately made a name for himself in English football through Leeds United in 1997.

In 1999, he was signed by Atletico Madrid as a record £10 million transfer from Leeds United after having arrived at the club in 1997. After the relegation of Atletico Madrid, he went to Chelsea in a big move of £15 million where he continued his thrilling form with 23 goals in his debut season. During his debut season only, he was awarded the Golden Boot.

He produced one of the most memorable performances of his career during the second season as he scored a hattrick against Tottenham Hotspur on 13th March, becoming the second player after Flo to score a hattrick in the same season. Hasselbaink has now shifted to coaching and is currently the assistant coach of the England national team.

1. Nicolas Jackson (2023)

In the latest addition to this elite list, we can now count Nicolas Jackson among them. On 6th November 2023, the Senegal international scored a memorable hattrick against Tottenham Hotspur at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in a match that Chelsea won by a score of 4-1. In a contest where Tottenham Hotspur entered the match unbeaten in the league and Chelsea were stumbling in the bottom half, his hat trick holds a special place in the hearts of Chelsea fans.

After coming from Villarreal, Jackson stunned everyone and proved exactly why Chelsea paid £32 million for him. He scored 12 LaLiga goals in 26 appearances in his breakthrough season of 2022-23 when he transferred from Villarreal to Chelsea. After scoring five goals in his first 10 Chelsea appearances, Jackson is touted to lead the Chelsea front line for the foreseeable future after an impressive start to the season.
