Manchester United injury update ahead of Tottenham fixture; some positive news for Ten Hag
Erik ten Hag has been hit with a growing injury list this season
After Manchester United defeated Wigan Athletic 2-0 on Monday night in the FA Cup fourth round, all eyes will be on Sunday’s Premier League match with Tottenham Hotspur. After defeating the League One Latics handily to start 2024, the Reds secured a fourth-round match against either Newport County or Eastleigh for the end of January.
Next week, the two teams indicated above square off in a third-round replay. However, manager Erik Ten Hag must strive to make sure United resumes victorious actions in the league this coming weekend before he can start making plans for the FA Cup’s subsequent round. A little more than a week ago, Nottingham defeated the Reds 2-1 in their most recent league game.
Lisandro Martinez
Last week, Martinez was captured on camera working out with the first team at Carrington, much like the remainder of the group. He had a second round of surgery in September to address a recurrent foot issue, which has kept him off the pitch.
Possible return date: January 27/28.
Harry Maguire
Maguire, another fellow centre-back, was substituted out of the team during the Champions League match against Bayern Munich 1-0 due to a groyne injury. He hasn’t been returned since mid-December. While he was not there against Wigan, Ten Hag said that Sunday’s match against Spurs might “potentially” have him in the starting lineup.
Possible return date: January 14.
Victor Lindelof
Lindelof sustained an injury in early December, necessitating groyne surgery. It is anticipated that his absence will not be prolonged, so he may make a comeback later this month, although a precise return date has not been announced.
Possible return date: January 27/28.
Luke Shaw
Shaw last played for United on December 23 against West Ham United. Shaw has missed the last three games due to an undisclosed illness and injury. He might play again against the Spurs.
Possible return date: January 14.
Tyrell Malacia
After suffering a knee injury during preseason training, Malacia—who joined from Feyenoord during the summer transfer window of 2022—is getting closer to making a comeback. He is another athlete who might make a comeback in the upcoming weeks.
Possible return date: January.

Casemiro
Casemiro is an additional overtime exile who is getting close to playing again, much like Martinez. Last week, he was observed taking part in a training session at Carrington.
Possible return date: January 27/28.
Mason Mount
Following a calf injury, Mount has missed nearly two months of play. On November 11, United defeated Luton Town 1-0 at Old Trafford. Similar to Martinez and Casemiro, United is hopeful that he will play before the end of the month against either Eastleigh or Newport.
Possible return date: January 27/28.
Christian Eriksen
Due to illness, Danish international Eriksen was unexpectedly left out of the team for matchday on Monday evening at the DW Stadium. Thankfully, it is not believed to be a serious injury, so he might play on Sunday against his old team.
Possible return date: January 14.
Amad
Winger Amad was sick and was unable to play against Wigan as well. After coming off the injured list in the loss at Forest a little more than a week ago, he was in line to make the first appearance of the year.
Possible return date: Unknown.
Antony
Just ten minutes into the subsequent half of the match versus Forest, Antony was switched by Amad. At the time, there were rumours that he had been injured in the hamstring, but those doubts were allayed when he was seen working out at Carrington before the match against Wigan.
Possible return date: Unknown.
Anthony Martial
Martial hasn’t appeared in any of the last six games for United, having missed the team’s 3-0 loss to Bournemouth on December 9. Since United has not provided the latest information on his status, it is still unknown when he may be ready again. He is currently sidelined due to sickness.
Possible return date: Unknown.
