Five instances when Manchester City conceded 4+ goals in Premier League under Pep Guardiola

Pep’s Manchester City has dominated the PL winning it 4 times in the past 5 seasons.
Manchester City changed drastically and made great progress ever since the Saudi takeover. The other 19 teams have often found it difficult to defeat Man City let alone dethrone them from their PL title charge.
However, every strong team has its worst days. Let’s take a look at 5 instances when a Premier League team scored 4+ goals against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City over the last 5 seasons.
5) Leicester City 5-2 Manchester City
The Foxes pulled off one of the biggest wins in the 2020-21 season beating City 5-2. Riyad Mahrez opened the scoreline early scoring a blistering volley in the 4th minute. However, Leicester City with the help of their crucial player Jamie Vardy did not give up.
Jamie Vardy scored his first goal in the 37th minute and then completed his hat-trick within the next 20 minutes. Jamie Vardy and Youri Tielemans both bagged a goal each as Leicester City completely outclassed Manchester City. Eventually, Jamie Vardy also went on to win the PL Golden Boot alongside Mohamed Salah.
4) Everton 4 – 0 Manchester City
In what was meant to be a one-sided match for Pep’s men Everton completely turned the odds against the favourites. This match led Pep Guardiola to lose hope as his team were then ten points off first place Chelsea in the 2016-17 season.
As usual, City had more possession but Everton had more quality scoring 4 goals out of 6 attempts at goal. The Toffees under the guidance of manager Ronald Koeman soaked up much of Manchester City’s possession. Koeman even took the risk and started some youngsters. Eventually, Everton destroyed Manchester City with Romelu Lukaku opening the scoreline in the 34th minute.

3) Liverpool 4 – 3 Manchester City
Manchester City were on an unbeaten run and were en route to win the season unbeaten. However, this was not meant to happen especially under Jurgen Klopp’s watch. Liverpool faced City in a thrilling fixture at Anfield.
Klopp’s side scored first with Oxalade Chamberlain scoring the first goal. Leroy Sané managed to score the equaliser in the 40th minute. Liverpool eventually turned the tide against Manchester City scoring three goals in the next 30 minutes to wrap up the game. Despite Manchester City bagging two late goals, it was a game to remember as Liverpool extended their own unbeaten run whilst ending the run of their opponents.
2) Leicester City 4 – 2 Man City
Jamie Vardy scored a great hat-trick for the first time against Manchester City in the 2015/16 season.
Leicester City were struggling in that season not winning in the league in 5 games. Eventually, the Foxes scored 3 goals within 20 minutes. Jamie Vardy had bagged a brace by then and was looking to complete his hat-trick. Eventually, Vardy completed his hat-trick after a mistake from John Stones. Manchester City managed to bag two late consolation goals as Pep Guardiola had a night to forget at King Power Stadium.
1) Chelsea 4 – 4 Man City
One of the most unexpected results in the 2022-23 season. City were having a great run since the new season started whereas Chelsea having spent millions on new players has struggled immensely. Surprisingly, in what was supposed to be a one-sided match for Guardiola’s men, Chelsea not only held their own but also could have won the match.
This match was crucial for Chelsea as they showed that they could hold their own despite having a squid rebuild. Pochettino’s new signing, Cole Palmer who himself was a former City player scored the 4th goal in the 95th minute. Despite the result, it’s definitely a contender to be the match of the season.
