Haaland and co have failed to qualify for yet another major tournament

Scotland are heading to Euro 2024 after cementing their position in Group A. They sit at the second spot in the group, they are currently at 16 points with one match to go. Scotland after trailing most of the match against Georgia, ended the match with a 2-2 scorline, Lawrence Shankland helped the Scottish side grab atleast a point. Qualification for EURO 2024 marks their second consecutive appearance in the competition.

Norway have officially failed to qualify for the competition, they sit at the third position with 10 points. It is next to impossible for the Norwegians to qualify for next year’s Euro in Germany. Their qualifying hopes were shattered following a 1-0 loss to Spain, and they have only participated in the Euros once, back in 2000. They now face an uncertain path and unprecedented pressure, they must now navigate the treacherous waters of the playoffs to secure one of the three coveted spots.

Kick-off:

Monday, 20 November 2023 at 8:45 PM BST (1:15 AM IST)

Location: Hampden Park

Form

Scotland (in Euro Qualifier): W-W-W-W-L

Norway (in Euro Qualifiers): L-W-W-W-L

Players to watch out

Scott Mctominay (Scotland):

Scott McTominay Bayern Munich
Mctominay has now scored 7 goals in 7 matches in the Euro Qualifiers campaign

The Scottish midfielder in terms of goals has been the main man for Scotland throughout this Euro Qualifiers campaign. He has now scored 7 goals in 7 matches, he added a goal to his tally against Georgia in Scotland’s previous meeting against Georgia. He has been a reliable and experienced player for his nation, somebody who is always looking to help and improve his team.

Oscar Bobb (Norway):

At the heart of Norway’s aspirations is the prolific striker Erling Haaland but his absence will allow the youngster to step up in this game. Oscar Bobb, another Manchester city, has risen through the ranks of the academy, he scored his first Norway goal with outrageous finish in Norway’s friendly match, Man City and Norway have a gem on their hands. The 20-year-old has also 4 appearances in the Premier League this season.

Match facts:

  • The Tartan Army have won five of their previous six appearances on home soil across all competitions.
  • Norway have recorded just one clean sheet from their previous six showdowns on foreign soil
  • In the reverse Group A clash between Scotland and Norway, Scotland secured a hard fought 2-1 win in Oslo.

Injury and team news:

Only missing player for Scotland ahead of this encounter is Che Adams, he is ruled out for a few weeks due to a muscle injury, Andy Robertson continues to miss for the home team.

Norway and Arsenal have suffered a huge blow, their captain Martin Odegaard will not appear in few games due to concussion protocol. Larsen and Sorloth being the other two players missing are expected to return in December. It is a nightmare for Manchester City as their star striker Erling Haaland was taken off after he came on as a sub for Norway in their international friendly, he has suffered the same ankle injury, he has been dealing with since a long time.

Match prediction for Scotland vs Norway:

Even though Scotland have qualified for Euro 2024, this match will be an opportunity for Scotland to take the top spot in Group A. They will need to be at their best to defeat Norway, who are going to be without their dangerous man Erling Haaland in their ranks. Norway have failed to qualify for Euro 2024 but they will aim to end the qualifying round with a win. With Scotland seeing three of their previous four showdowns finish with both teams finding the net, we are expecting a similar outcome in Glasgow.

Prediction: Scotland 2-1 Norway
