Tottenham Hotspur will have many key players absent due to injuries

In an attempt to avoid losing in the Premier League for the third week in a row, Tottenham Hotspur will play Aston Villa in their own stadium on Sunday afternoon after the November international break.

Ange Postecoglou’s club came into the year’s last break reeling from back-to-back defeats by Wolverhampton Wanderers and Chelsea, losing 2-1 to goals from Mario Lemina and Pablo Sarabia in injury time.

As a result, the Lilywhites have slipped somewhat behind their title contenders; they are now two points behind Manchester City, the defending champions, and sit fourth in the table, with Liverpool and Arsenal one point ahead of this weekend’s hosts.

The Brazilian forward Richarlison disclosed before the international break that he would be undergoing surgery to address a pelvic issue that had been bothering him for months, but he is expected to be back playing before Christmas.

Although Destiny Udogie had recovered from a muscular issue against Chelsea, he missed the match against Wolves due to a similar issue and did not get called up to the Italy team. Nevertheless, there is hope that he can recover in time for Sunday.

Identical to Maddison, the playmaker will be sidelined the rest of the year due to an ankle injury that also forced him to leave the game against the Blues in the first half of injury time. This injury has turned out to be more severe than initially thought.

Ivan Perisic

Type of injury: KneePossible return date: Unknown

Ivan Perisic, who is out of the deal in the summer, finds himself in a similar situation as he recovers from a knee procedure. However, while Van de Ven and Maddison plan to return in January, Perisic may miss the duration of the season.

Manor Solomon

Manor Solomon had to have surgery on his knee after suffering an injury on the training pitch, and the Israeli attacker will likely need to recover for a few more months.

Ryan Sessegnon

Due to a hamstring procedure, Ryan Sessegnon has not yet played this season. Although Postecoglou has not stated when the winger will return, he has stated throughout the past several weeks that the player will be out for an extended period of time.

Alfie Whiteman

Type of injury: AnklePossible return date: Unknown

Alfie Whiteman, the custodian for Fringe, rounds out Spurs’ list of surgical victims as he recovers from an ankle injury. It’s unclear when the Englishman will be well enough to rejoin the team.
