After a strenuous 90-minute battle, FC Goa were compelled to accept a draw against Mumbai City FC at the Fatorda Stadium in Goa. Despite both teams having numerous opportunities throughout the match, neither managed to convert them into goals.
With the draw, FC Goa remain at the top of the ISL points table with 20 points from eight matches while Mumbai City FC are placed at the fourth place with 15 points from the seven games they have played so far.
Let’s have a look at what FC Goa’s head coach Manolo Marquez said in the post-match press conference.
Performance of the team
No doubt, FC Goa experienced certain instances of success during the match, however, they faced difficulties in maintaining possession. Nevertheless, coach Manolo Marquez exhibited unwavering support for his players. He said, “I am pleased with the players’ dedication and their positive attitude. I am highly content with the dedication and structure evident in the effort put forth. However, it is imperative to consider a proactive approach in order to achieve greater impact in our offensive strategies.”
Mumbai City are going to perform better
Manolo Marquez also stated that Mumbai City are going to be a threat for other teams from here onwards. “In my opinion, I believe that Mumbai City are currently positioned to win the majority of their games. Their style of play, characterized by a sense of freedom, makes them exceedingly dangerous. The defensive aspect of their game was highly commendable, and achieving such a feat was anything but effortless,” he asserted.
Efforts of the players
FC Goa are at the top of the table because of their clinical performances this season. The Spaniard mentioned, “The players demonstrate an understanding of the playing style, particularly in the defensive aspect. I believe that when one arrives in a new environment, it is essential to start from scratch. By doing so, we can assess our strengths and weaknesses.”
“It is worth mentioning that we have previously won games based on the sheer quality of our players, rather than relying solely on specific actions,” he concluded.
