Sankarlal Chakraborty also spoke about the relationship he shares with Punjab FC boss Staikos Vergetis.
Punjab FC have just registered their first-ever win in the Indian Super League in their last fixture against Chennaiyin FC, thanks to Madih Talal who netted the ball from an assist by Khaiminthang Lhungdim. They will now be taking on an in-form Odisha FC, who have been doing their job pretty well under head coach Sergio Lobera.
Before tomorrow’s game, Punjab FC Assistant Coach Sankarlal Chakraborty and player Samuel Kynshi Lyngdoh appeared for the media interaction. Here is their response to what we had in store for them.
Thoughts on the first win
On asking about the team’s morale after registering their first-ever win, Punjab FC Assistant Coach Sankarlal Chakraborty said, “We are very happy that we have registered our first win in the ISL but there were many mistakes made in the past due to which we weren’t able to register a win until our last game. We have to be very conscious about these mistakes in the upcoming fixtures.”
Thoughts on facing Odisha FC
Odisha FC are a team on a mission and have enjoyed immense success under Sergio Lobera this season. Chakraborty said, “Odisha FC is a very good team who have some really good Indian as well as international players on their roster. Their coach is also managing the team pretty well. We have done our preparations accordingly to perform well in tomorrow’s game.”
Punjab FC’s midfield dynamo Samuel Kynshi Lyngdoh added, “They are a very good opposition who have been in form this season with an experienced coach in Indian football who has got players that fit his style. They are one of the best teams in the league by far.”
Thoughts on working with Punjab FC
Sankarlal Chakraborty shared his feelings about working with Punjab FC, a team which made it to the ISL after winning the I-League last term.
“I was very nervous at first since this was my first season in the Indian Super League but they made me feel important by taking inputs from me, both technically and tactically. Our Technical Director also guided me a lot which I didn’t think of. Last but not the least, our Head Coach Staikos Vergetis is a gentleman with vast knowledge. I take pride in working with him and we have become good friends over a while.”
