Benfica plans to keep Angel Di Maria for one more season

Angel Di Maria has one year left on his Benfica contract
Angel Di Maria left Juventus as a free agent and signed for Benfica on a year deal and it is understood he is likely to leave the Portuguese club and return to his Boyhood club in Argentina, but Benfica manager Schmidt wants to keep Di Maria for another year.
The forward was released by the Bianconeri because of their financial difficulties and lack of Champions League action. The 35-year-old winger committed to the Primeira Liga winners through 2024 when he inked a one-year deal.
For Di Maria, returning to Benfica felt like returning home. He was a player for the team from 2007 until 2010, at which point he left to pursue his illustrious career.
After an incredible 2010 World Cup performance, he transferred to Real Madrid, one of the biggest teams in Spain.
Di Maria had incredible success, taking home two domestic cups, the Champions League, and La Liga.
After that, Di Maria moved to Manchester United for an entire year in the Premier League, where he won the FA Cup.

He relocated to Paris Saint-Germain, where his success with Les Parisiens increased. Before departing the Ligue 1 winners in 2022, he won eighteen titles with them.
Despite struggling with injuries, Di Maria enjoyed a respectable season with the black and white of Serie A team Juventus.
The 2022 World Cup winner will reportedly quit the team the following season, despite the forward’s one-year contract only being inked with the Portuguese team.
It was anticipated that he would rejoin his hometown team in Argentina, but the Benfica manager expressed his desire to retain the former Real Madrid player for an additional season.
“We will try to keep Ángel Di Maria here at the club for one more season, that’s the plan”. “We are enjoying every game and training session with Di Maria, let’s see. We will try”.
