Everton are above relegation zone after four consecutive wins

After replacing Vitalii Mykolenko the day before the match, Everton manager Sean Dyche is hoping that he was able to take Abdoulaye Doucoure off the pitch quickly enough in the 2-0 victory at Burnley to spare his top scorer from major injury problems.

Everton easily defeated their boss’s former employers for the fourth game in a row, although Doucoure was substituted at halftime with the visitors leading by two goals. When asked how the midfield player was doing, Dyche responded as follows:

“He’s another one, he let us know the last five minutes of the first half he had a tightness in his hamstring, tightness can lead to problems so we’re hopeful we got him off in time because we are getting stretched at the moment.”

Vitalii Mykolenko’s early departure with an injury which renders him uncertain for Tuesday’s Carabao Cup quarterfinal match at home against Fulham compelled Everton, who had been playing without Ashley Young and Seamus Coleman due to injury and without Jarrad Branthwaite and Idrissa Gueye due to suspension after the two received their fifth yellow cards of the campaign against Chelsea, to go to a 5-4-1 formation. However, Dyche was happy with the team’s reaction. He declared:

“I’m delighted, particularly as a manager, with the second half given the tactical understanding of the side who were pieced together.

Yesterday morning we lost Myko (Vitalii Mykolenko) with a tight groin and because we’ve got injuries and suspensions, we can’t risk players at the minute so we’ve had to change everything in the morning.

“Their acceptance to go and deliver a performance that could win and was very pleasing was something we’ve worked upon, certainly this pre-season and going into the season, was the open-mindedness to be adaptable as a side and find ways of winning and I think we’re doing that.

The players particularly deserve a lot of credit for that at the moment, for accepting the challenge and taking it on and I think we did that today.”

In the meantime, Dyche acknowledges that the team is still awaiting word on the severity of the groyne issue that prevented Mykolenko from playing in the victory at Burnley.
