How many games will Mohamed Salah miss for Liverpool due to AFCON 2023?
Mohamed Salah is a key figure in Liverpool’s attack
AFCON 2023 is set to start in mid-January and will continue until mid-February. Some European clubs are unhappy with the tournament as some of their superstars will miss action in the new year.
One of the biggest names who will be out of action during this period is Liverpool ace, Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian is one of the hottest properties in African football and his nation’s biggest hope.
Mo Salah has been the backbone of the Merseyside club and is probably one of the best players in English football over the years. He is the leading scorer for the Reds and will be a big miss.
Salah has found the back of the net 16 times this season in 25 games and also has seven assists to his name. Of these 16 goals, 12 came in 18 Premier League appearances.

Egypt are in Group B along with Ghana, Cape Verde and Mozambique. Salah will be out for matches against Arsenal (FA Cup), EFL Cup semi-final first-leg against Fulham and Premier League match against Bournemouth. The semi-final second leg will be played two days after Egypt’s final group game. In case they fail to qualify for the knockout stage, then also he is unlikely to play in this match.
A group-stage elimination for Egypt would potentially see Salah miss only one Premier League fixture. But were the Pharaohs to make it to a third final in four tournaments on 11 February, the winger would also be unavailable for league games at home to Chelsea (31 January), away to Arsenal (4 February) and at home to Burnley (10 February).
Liverpool fans will hope their superstar returns after the group stage but this is what Salah won’t like. The Egyptian King will be eyeing a title win with his nation.
