Joao Cancelo is playing on loan at Barcelona in the 2023-24 season

Barcelona could find it difficult to sign Manchester City’s full-back Joao Cancelo on a permanent deal as he is likely to cost more €30 million. Looking at the current financial situation of the Spanish club, they will find it difficult to pay a heavy amount to the English side.

The Spanish champions are likely to retain their two loan signings, Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo. Felix could be available on loan for another season if Atletico Madrid agree.

However, in Cancelo’s case, things won’t be the same as Man City will look to make some money from his sale and meet the financial condition to avoid any troubles in the future. Sport have reported, that Manchester City won’t be as flexible as Atleti when it comes to agreeing on a deal.

The Portuguese right-back is a hot prospect and one of the best-attacking full-backs in the game.

Man City will only allow Cancelo to leave permanently, and they will demand in excess of €30m in order to approve the sale. While this may be a bargain, Barcelona’s ongoing financial problems mean that they could have trouble agreeing to the European champions’ demands.

Barca will do everything to retain Cancelo’s services, and there’s no doubt that this will end up being the case. However, more difficult negotiations could be in store over the coming months.

Laporta said in a recent interview, “Their agent, Atlético and Man City already told us what’s gonna be needed to sign them. We want both Joaos to be a permanent part of the team, not on loan. Let’s see how it evolves. I feel all parties will be happy at the end.”
