Paul Pogba to be handed 4-year ban by Anti-doping prosecutors

Paul Pogba might be forced into early retirement
Paul Pogba, a midfielder for Juventus, was subjected to a maximum four-year penalty by Italian Anti-doping authorities on Thursday following his positive testosterone test.
Pogba declined to enter into a plea agreement with Italy’s anti-doping organisation, therefore the matter will go before the anti-doping tribunal there.
The International Anti-Doping Code stipulates that athletes face four-year suspensions, but this can be shortened if they can demonstrate that their doping was accidental, if contamination caused the positive assessment, or if they offer “substantial assistance” to investigators.
Pogba’s first positive test resulted from an examination conducted following Juventus’ match at Udinese on August 20. The news was released in September. Pogba was on the bench but did not participate in the Serie A match.

Pogba has not discussed the case in public. Massimiliano Allegri, the coach of Juventus, expressed his sympathy for Paul in October.
For a player who has been plagued by ailments since returning to Juventus from Manchester United in July 2022, the doping case is another black mark against him. Due to a knee injury, he was unable to participate in France’s World Cup run last year. He has only appeared in six Serie A games for Juventus so far this season and two previous seasons.
Authorities in France are currently looking into claims that Pogba was the subject of extortionists, notably his sibling Mathias, who has refuted allegations of wrongdoing.
In the 2018 World Cup final, France defeated Croatia 4-2 thanks to a goal by Pogba. Between 2012 and 2016, he participated in 178 Juventus games.
