Who will captain Manchester United vs Liverpool? With Fernandes suspended, Shaw & Maguire injured

The Red Devils haven’t scored at Anfield since 2018
While Erik ten Hag can’t seem to choose just one leader for Sunday’s Liverpool vs Manchester United match at Anfield, Jurgen Klopp seems to have captains popping out from his ears.
Virgil van Dijk, Mo Salah, Wataru Endo, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Andy Robertson are the five international captains in the home team’s changing area. Klopp wasn’t concerned if another veteran player, such as Alisson or Trent Alexander-Arnold, grabbed the captain’s armband.
Ten Hag, poor thing, would adore to have so much choice. Given his irascible performance in the team’s 7-0 thumping of Merseyside this past season, club captain Bruno Fernandes’ ban might not feel like a huge loss, but it raises the subject of who will be in charge of the squad going forward.
Due to injuries, Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire, Christian Eriksen, and Casemiro are set to miss out. An apparent option Raphael Varane has encountered his problems with the boss, and we’re still waiting on the most recent medical update regarding Marcus Rashford, a local kid who was unable to play against Bayern Munich due to sickness.

Diogo Dalot and Antony are possibly too impetuous, while Rasmus Hojlund and Kobbie Manoo are too young. Anyone has a better chance than Jadon Sancho of captaining United. That leaves experienced Jonny Evans and Scott McTominay as contenders in what would be a stunning comeback for either guy.

On the day of the transfer the due date, McTominay, 27, was allowed to join Fulham; it is believed that he, not Ten Hag or United, turned down the offer.
Given that McTominay only started two of United’s first 11 games this season and did not start any of the team’s last 13 games during the previous campaign, it is reasonable to assume that he was ranked beneath midfielders Christian Eriksen, Casemiro, Fernandes, and even recent £60 million acquisition Mason Mount.
But, Ten Hag has now made him one of the select few players who will always start. After his game-winning double against Chelsea, McTominay brought his impressive international form to Old Trafford.
He is currently the club’s leading scorer and possesses the drive and enthusiasm that some of his teammates lack.
