Manchester United injury news ahead of Liverpool clash
Manchester United are sixth in the Premier League currently
A stack of injury concerns are awaiting Erik ten Hag ahead of Manchester United’s trip to Liverpool.
Erik Ten Hag confirms: “Anthony Martial and Harry Maguire are both out against Liverpool”. “Positive update also as Marcus Rashford and Luke Shaw are both fit to play”.
When Bayern Munich visited on Tuesday in the Champions League, Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw both suffered injuries during the 1-0 loss, ruling out Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.
Victor Lindelof, Mason Mount, and Christian Eriksen are players that United is sorely hoping are getting close to returning to action, but Ten Hag has been mum on their development.
Despite being long-term absentees, Lisandro Martinez and Casemiro both just returned to the Carrington training fields.
Here is the most recent information on Manchester United’s injury list and expected return dates.
Marcus Rashford
Rashford missed training on Monday, United announced, citing sickness.
The England forward was benched for Ten Hag’s starting lineup in recent weeks, so he was unable to play against Bayern. He is also unlikely to play against Liverpool.
Possible date of return: December 17, against Liverpool
Luke Shaw
Less than a month after returning from a 16-game absence due to a leg muscle ailment, Shaw was carried off the pitch at halftime on Tuesday night due to what seemed to be a hamstring strain. When Ten Hag talked after the game, he did not downplay worries over a new stint out for the left-back.
Possible date of return: Not specified
Harry Maguire
Regarding Maguire’s injury, which appeared to be a groyne strain in the first half, Ten Hag remained evasive as well.
After continuing to play for a while, the 30-year-old soon began to experience pain again and left to be replaced by Jonny Evans. We’ll now evaluate him.
Possible date of return: Not specified
Anthony Martial
Martial was absent from training on Monday due to illness, much like Rashford.
Whether he returns in time to make the Liverpool squad is something United is anticipated to inform supporters of later in the week.
Possible date of return: December 17, against Liverpool

Mason Mount
Despite rumours that he was back in training, United has not disclosed anything regarding Mount’s recovery from a calf injury.
He did not, however, show up for Monday’s practice and expressed little desire to jeopardise his playing return.
Possible return date: against West Ham on December 23.
Victor Lindelof
Despite being able to train before the Bayern match, Lindelof was not included in the team.
He missed the Bournemouth loss due to a slight injury as well, but Shaw’s and Maguire’s problems may force him back into the defence on Sunday.
Possible return date: against Liverpool on December 17.
Lisandro Martinez
Martinez underwent a second operation to fix his broken metatarsal, and United is proceeding cautiously.
Talk of a Christmas comeback may be untimely, as the defender is rumoured to have experienced a little setback. Martinez was allowed to participate in some light exercise on the Carrington grass on Monday.
Possible date of return: early 2024.
Casemiro
The 31-year-old midfielder Casemiro has had a difficult season due to injuries. He hasn’t played since November 1st when he suffered a hamstring strain during the Carabao Cup.
But in recent days, the Brazilian has accelerated his recuperation, going back to some modest solo workouts. He set his first comeback date before Christmas, and it looks like he will make it in time.
Christian Eriksen: According to reports, Eriksen is very close to making a comeback after missing a month of action due to a knee injury in mid-November.
Since losing the Dane before the most recent international break, Ten Hag has not discussed the player’s fitness, and given the reports that he would be moved in January, he might not play a significant role upon his return.
Possible return date: against West Ham on December 23.
Tyrell Malacia
Malacia, a Dutch left-back who hasn’t played yet this season, has not yet played for the Red Devils. A recent update detailed the team’s return schedule.
After having surgery for a knee problem in the summer, a setback necessitated another procedure, and he is now aiming for the New Year.
Possible date of return: early 2024
Amad Diallo
Amad made his full training comeback last week following a preseason knee injury.
Although the young player may be ready to play, there is a potential that he won’t have a shot right away in Ten Hag’s lineup based on rumours of a new loan move in January. Like with Kobbie Mainoo, he’ll probably be brought back via reserve matches before a first-team debut.
Possible return date: against West Ham on December 23.
