Diamantakos, Seriton star in ISL 2023-24 Team of GW 12

Indian players ruled the roost in the past few matches of ISL.

Indian Super League (ISL) will take a brief break after the conclusion of gameweek 12 of its ongoing 2023-24 season. This is due to the commencement of the Super Cup which takes place from 8 January to 28 January 2024. However, in the recent round of matches across the league, fans witnessed exhilarating action and several notable results as the year 2023 wrapped up.

To produce a positive result for their respective clubs, Indian and foreign players alike performed well and subsequently earned a place in Khel Now’s Team of the Week for Round 12. On that note, here is a look at which players stood out in the final fixtures of the ISL in the year 2023 and made it into the Team of the Week from gameweek 12:

GK – Amrinder Singh (Odisha FC)

Amrinder Singh was crucial once again for Odisha FC in both their fixtures in gameweek 12. He kept a clean sheet against Punjab FC in a 1-0 win and made several important saves to help the Kalinga Warriors secure a 4-1 win against Jamshedpur FC.

RB –  Seriton Fernandes (FC Goa)

Seriton Fernandes performed well for FC Goa in their 1-1 draw with NorthEast United. The full-back worked hard to defend and attack as per the situation. He won seven duels and made two important clearances during the game.

CB –  Rahul Bheke (Mumbai City FC)

Rahul Bheke led Mumbai City FC’s defence astutely in their 3-0 win over Chennaiyin FC at the Mumbai Football Arena. The defender made three clearances during the game and helped the side keep a clean sheet.

CB –  Milos Drincic (Kerala Blasters FC)

Keeping a clean sheet against reigning champions Mohun Bagan was a magnificent feat by Kerala Blasters FC in the past week. Milos Drincic starred in their defence as he made 10 clearances to help KBFC record a 1-0 win away from home.

LB – Mehtab Singh (Mumbai City FC)

Khel Now’s Team of the Week Gameweek 12.

Mehtab Singh was in cruise control against Chennaiyin FC and played a key role in helping the Islanders secure a 3-0 win. He made six clearances during the game and kept the Marina Machans attackers in check.

CM – Mohammed Azhar (Kerala Blasters FC)

Mohammed Azhar was the best performer in the midfield for Kerala Blasters FC in their 1-0 win away from home against Mohun Bagan. He covered every blade of the grass, completed 34 of his 36 passes and created one big chance too.

CM – Ahmed Jahouh (Odisha FC)

Thanks to Ahmed Jahouh’s brilliant performance against Punjab FC and Jamshedpur FC, the Kalinga Warriors recorded two wins in the gameweek 12. He was particularly unstoppable for Odisha FC in their 4-1 win over Jamshedpur FC. The midfielder had 141 touches of the ball and completed 103 passes in the game. 

RW – Parthib Gogoi (NorthEast United)

Parthib Gogoi was impressive in the 1-1 draw with FC Goa where he delivered the assist for Jithin MS’ goal. The attacker attempted three shots on goal and could have bagged a goal for himself too.

LW – Isak Ralte (Odisha FC)

Isak Ralte is emerging as one of the most exciting Indian attackers in the 2023-24 Indian Super League. He was sensational against Jamshedpur FC where the 22-year-old scored a goal and provided one assist. 

ST – Roy Krishna (Odisha FC)

Roy Krishna scored a memorable brace for Odisha FC in their 4-1 win over Jamshedpur FC and also scored the winning goal for the outfit against Punjab FC earlier in the game week 12. His goal tally for the season has reached seven and he is the joint-top scorer at the moment in the league. 

ST – Dimitrios Diamantakos (Kerala Blasters FC)

Dimitrios Diamantakos scored the winning goal for Kerala Blasters FC against Mohun Bagan in a tight contest. He turned up when his team needed him the most to score the seventh goal of the season, which puts him joint-top with Roy Krishna in the race for golden boot.
