Senegal picked up a 3-0 win

Senegal began their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign with a convincing victory over Gambia, despite technological issues that affected spectators worldwide.

The reigning champions, who are again among the favourites to win the AFCON, led by Pape Gueye and Lamine Camara to goals early in either half, while Gambia saw a player sent off and Camara added a late third.

The global TV feed failed for over 25% of the match, making it a very unpleasant watching affair for those who did not live in the Ivorian city of Yamoussoukro.

Broadcasters around the globe were compelled to explain to viewers why there was so little action from the 25th minute to the beginning of the second half, and for a large portion of the match, there was no commentary.

Group C got underway on the pitch as predicted, and Senegal scored their first goal as an international shortly after Marseille midfielder Gueye scored after Sadio Mane’s layoff.

Ebou Adams of Cardiff was sent off for a studs-up charge during first-half stoppage time following a video replay.

Senegal then extended their lead in the 52nd minute through 20-year-old Camara, who took advantage of Gambia’s numerical disadvantage to dash into the area and finish low, unlike opponents Egypt for the AFCON title.

Before Nicolas Jackson, a striker for Chelsea, came off on the sideline to make use of the plenty of room available to the Lions, Habib Diallo came dangerously close to making it 3-0. Goalie Baboucarr Gaye expertly blocked his effort at goal after it was played in over the top.

The third goal, however, was largely the work of another replacement, Iliman Ndiaye, who skillfully sidestepped his defender to set up Camara, the Mets midfielder, who curled a shot into the upper corner from 25 yards out.
