Top African teams fight the AFCON 2023 crown

Maybe in football knockouts, the outcome is all that matters. You pass through, you exit, and everything else is noise. But that’s particularly the case when the match is the greatest rivalry in contemporary sub-Saharan African football.

The entire ninety minutes won’t be watched by many individuals in awestruck fashion. It is irrelevant, though. Cameroon is eliminated from the Africa Cup of Nations; Nigeria advances to play Angola in the quarterfinals.

It was never going to be the most beautiful game, especially with the dew-covered pitch and maybe the twenty-five minutes of washing it before kickoff.

The knockout rounds of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations have begun. Find out which teams in Côte d’Ivoire still have an opportunity to win. It is known who the first two quarterfinalists are.

In Côte d’Ivoire, the 2023 CAF Africa Cup of Nations is presently in its knockout stage.

In the group stages, the initial 24 teams in the tournament were reduced to the final 16. The 16 will now be reduced to eight players who remain in the running to win the African men’s football championship.

In the current African Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire, the Super Eagles of Nigeria will play Angola in the following round.

On Friday, February 2, 2024, at 6 p.m., Nigeria will take on the Giant Sable Antelope in the AFCON 2023 Quarterfinals at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan.

In a fiercely contested match, Nigeria defeated the Resilient Lions of Cameroon decisively thanks to two goals by Ademola Lookman.

In addition, the Super Eagles are still undefeated in the competition. As reported by CAF Online, Angolan forward, Jacinto Dala feels they deserve to advance to the quarterfinals of the competition.

On Friday, the team trounced Namibia 3-0, with Jacinto Dala contributing to each of the three goals.

Notably, Angola has advanced to the tournament’s final eight for the very first time since their 2008 semifinal performance.
