Angola announce 23-man squad for AFCON 2023

Angola are a part of Group D
Angola’s head coach Pedro Goncalves has announced the squad for the upcoming African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023. 23 players will represent their nation in the upcoming tournament in Ivory Coast.
This will be Angola’s ninth appearance in the African Cup of Nations and they will make a return after missing the AFCON in 2021. Palancas Negras have reached the quarterfinals twice in their AFCON history. They also played in the FIFA World Cup 2006.
Angola are in Group D alongside Algeria, Burkina Faso, and Mauritania. They play the opening game against group favourites Algeria on 15 January.

Pedro Goncalves’ side will then face Mauritania on 20 January. Their final group game will be against Burkina Faso on the 23rd.
The Angolan team finished second in their qualification group. Goncalves’s side began their World Cup qualification campaign and played out two goalless draws against Cape Verde and Mauritius in November. They lack momentum going into the tournament and might find it hard to reach the knockout stage.
