Ghana lost their opening AFCON game to Cape Verde

Following Ghana’s loss against Cape Verde on Sunday, January 14, 2024, at the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, a horrific incident took place as a frustrated fan assaulted manager Chris Hughton.

The man who has not been named was taken into custody in Abidjan after he assaulted Hughton at the team’s hotel. According to several accounts, Ghanaian diplomats on the scene acted quickly in response to the attack, saving Coach Hughton before the attacker was turned over to the authorities.

There is still no word on the reason for the attack, which has football fans wondering why the angry fan singled out the coach.

The Abidjan incident has clouded the Black Stars’ advertisement, highlighting the difficulties the team faces both on and off the pitch.

Ghana is treading carefully in this competition since they have a pivotal match against Egypt on Thursday; a loss would be the end of their campaign.

According to sources, the arrested fan tried to assault the coach, but three Ghanaian ambassadors intervened.

The unidentified suspect was turned over to the Cote d’Ivoire police while the carriage was being moved to safety.

The cops are in charge of him and will determine the best course of action. Coach Chris Hughton, meanwhile, has expressed dissatisfaction following Ghana’s close loss to Cape Verde.

The coach is optimistic that his team can get sufficient points from the balance of Group B matches against Mozambique and Egypt to go to the AFCON knockout stage.
