Nigeria are a part of Group A

The three-time African winners, Nigeria, will play Equatorial Guinea in Cote d’Ivoire next Monday to begin their AFCON 2023 campaign. Ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, the Confederation of African Football, or CAF, has revealed the Super Eagles’ roster numbers, according to Soccernet. ng.

A jersey number between 1 and 25 has been assigned to each of the 25 players who were chosen. Victor Osimhen, striker for Napoli, has been assigned the coveted number 9, reaffirming his role as the team’s starting centre forward.

Francis Uzoho, the custodian for Omonia Nicosia, has been given the number one shirt despite prior doubts about his position as the team’s first choice.

Despite having few opportunities to play for the first team, Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa continues to wear the number 7 jersey that he has had for many years.

Samuel Chukwueze, Moses Simon, Joe Aribo, Alex Iwobi, and William Troost-Ekong are among the important players who will continue to wear their well-known team numbers of 11, 15, 10, 17, and 5, respectively.

Olorunleke Ojo, Stanley Nwabili, and Alhassan Yusuf—three recently invited players—will wear jersey numbers 16, 23, and 4, respectively.

Usually numbered 22 at Bayer Leverkusen, Victor Boniface has chosen to wear number 24 at the AFCON.

It is announced that Kelechi Iheanacho, who is recuperating from a slight injury, would wear number 14 at the AFCON. Iheanacho has not reported to the training camp in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

On Monday, January 8, Nigeria will take on Guinea in a friendly game as the Super Eagles hone their tactics ahead of the January 13 start of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
