Ivory Coast will host the African Cup of Nations
The African Cup of Nations 2023 (AFCON 2023) will start with hosts Ivory Coast taking on Guinea-Bissau in a Group A fixture.
24 teams will participate to lift the African glory. Senegal won their first-ever title in 2021 and will aim to lift it for the second time.
Egypt are the most successful team in the continent but Mohamed Salah is yet to lift the trophy. Some of the other big names like Riyad Mahrez, Achraf Hakimi, Victor Osimhen, Sadio Mane and others will all fight to become the champions of Africa.
The tournament begins on 13 January and ends on 11 February. Players have left their respective clubs to fight for the African glory.
AFCON 2023 was initially planned to be the third since 2019 to take place during the Northern Hemisphere’s summer, to reduce scheduling conflicts with European club teams and competitions. However, it was postponed by CAF to 13 January – 11 February 2024 on 3 July 2022 due to the adverse summer weather concerns in Ivory Coast, whilst retaining the edition’s original name for sponsorship purposes. This followed the 2021 edition in Cameroon also being moved to the Northern Hemisphere’s winter season for similar reasons.
