Injury sidelines Kerala Blasters goalie Sachin Suresh for 'significant duration'

Kerala Blasters have officially confirmed an unfortunate setback for their promising young goalkeeper, Sachin Suresh. Sustaining a shoulder injury in the recent away fixture against Chennaiyin FC, Sachin is set to be sidelined for a significant duration. This injury setback comes at a crucial time for the club, especially considering Sachin’s impressive performances and his emergence as a contender for the Emerging Player of the Season award.
The club statement read, “The Club regrets to announce that our goalkeeper, Sachin Suresh, sustained a shoulder injury during the recent away fixture against Chennaiyin FC. This unfortunate setback is expected to keep him sidelined for a significant duration. We extend our heartfelt wishes to Sachin for a speedy and full recovery from this injury.”
Impressive Debut Season Highlights Sachin’s Potential
Sachin’s Indian Super League debut season showcased his incredible talent, having played 15 matches in the competition and registering five clean-sheets, 33 saves, and two penalty saves. The young Keralalite had previously gained experience with clubs like FC Kerala and Kerala Blasters B, making a noteworthy impact in his ascent to the senior team.
Sachin’s journey with Kerala Blasters began in 2020 when he ascended from the reserve team in the Kerala Premier League to train alongside the senior squad. Despite initially serving as the second-choice goalkeeper, Sachin’s perseverance and dedication earned him opportunities to shine in prestigious tournaments such as the Next Gen Cup in the UK.
Contract Extension and Stellar Performances
His breakthrough came on April 8, 2023, against Punjab, when Sachin made his official debut (first team start) for Kerala Blasters in the Super Cup, leaving a lasting impression with his commendable performances. His contributions were pivotal in securing victories for the team, showcasing his potential as a reliable shot-stopper.
Following his commendable displays, Kerala Blasters extended Sachin’s contract until 2026, affirming their confidence in his abilities. His ISL debut against Bengaluru FC highlighted his proficiency as he played a crucial role in securing a triumphant 2–1 victory. Sachin further etched his name in ISL history by saving crucial penalties in consecutive matches, a testament to his remarkable reflexes and composure under pressure. Moreover, against East Bengal, he saved two back-to-back penalties (including a retake), which were taken by Brazilian Cleiton Silva.
