Bayer will hold talks with Leverkusen to appoint Xabi Alonso as their next coach

After the end of the current season, Thomas Tuchel will depart FC Bayern. With a decision approved by the head coach and the club, Tuchel departs Bayern in June.

Thomas Tuchel: “We have agreed that we will end our collaboration after the end of this season”.

“Until then, my coaching staff and I will of course continue to do everything we can to ensure maximum success for FC Bayern”.

At the completion of the current campaign, both FC Bayern and Liverpool are still keen to name Xabi Alonso as their next head coach.

Both clubs will hold talks with Leverkusen. His contract with Bayer does not have a formal release clause, although he is free to quit if he wants to attempt a new endeavour.

Bayern CEO Dreesen: “Our goal is to carry out a sporting realignment with a new coach for the 2024/25 season”.

“Until then, every individual at the club is expressly challenged to achieve the maximum possible in the Champions League and Bundesliga”.

On the last day of the Bundesliga season, his Bayern team managed to defeat Borussia Dortmund, though, as their opponents drew 2-2 at home against Mainz, securing an 11th consecutive German crown.

In an attempt to secure both domestic and European success, England captain Harry Kane left Tottenham Hotspur in a transaction worth an initial 100 million euros (ÂŁ86 million).

However, a detrimental stretch has seen Bayern fall farther behind Leverkusen in the Bundesliga, and they will also need to overcome a deficit from the first leg against Lazio to qualify for Europe.

On a contract that ran through June 2025, the 50-year-old took Julian Nagelsmann’s position at the German champions in March 2023.

However, the former Chelsea manager will leave the team a year ahead of schedule due to “a sporting realignment” at Bayern.

Following taking charge in the spring, he guided Bayern to the Bundesliga title last season, but following consecutive league losses, they are currently eight points below leaders Bayer Leverkusen.

After “an open, good conversation,” both sides decided to “mutually end our collaboration,” according to Jan-Christian Dreesen, CEO of Bayern.
