Chelsea are 11th in Premier League table

If Chelsea decides to fire Mauricio Pochettino, they may target Ruben Amorim because there are “significant doubts” about the Argentine among the senior management at Stamford Bridge.

Only after finishing in the bottom half of the league the previous season, did Chelsea finally employ Pochettino, and they had high hopes that he would invigorate their expensively assembled side.

However, with the team’s loss to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final and their continued troubles in the Premier League this season, questions are being raised.

Pochettino’s long-term future is now in doubt due to the impending make-or-break talks with owner Todd Boehly. The Blues may now look to 39-year-old Amorim, who has also surfaced as a possible successor to Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.

Amorim is considered one of the possible replacements for leading player Xabi Alonso, as Klopp has already declared his intention to retire at the end of the current campaign.

His Sporting team is soaring in Portugal, trailing league leaders Benfica by just two points thanks to an undefeated streak that dates back to December. In the 2020–21 season, Amorim gave the Lisbon club their first league title in 19 years. They also advanced to the round of 16 of this year’s Europa League.

The Chelsea administration “significantly doubts” Pochettino’s competence for the position, according to The Mail. Despite the fact that losing to a Liverpool team full of young players won’t have helped, this is reportedly not a snap decision in response to the defeat at Wembley.

Amorim is reportedly one of the names being evaluated, though it has been acknowledged that the Portuguese player might have offers from teams that can play in the Champions League.

Pochettino is expected to be granted until the conclusion of the campaign to demonstrate that he merits extra time, regardless of Chelsea’s decision. Through the FA Cup, where they will play Leeds United in the fifth round, the Blues can yet make it to Europe.
