Christopher Nkunku set to be on the sidelines for four weeks with a fresh injury

Christopher Nkunku, an attacker for Chelsea, will be sidelined for a longer amount of time due to an injury he acquired in the EFL Cup final.

The Blues lost 1-0 to Liverpool on Sunday afternoon at Wembley Stadium, with Virgil van Dijk’s goal in the 118th minute deciding the outcome.Chelsea once more stuttered in front of goal as Nkunku, who had been brought on as a substitute in the 67th minute, was unable to make an effect in the closing minutes.

The France international had been available for six games in a row after recovering from a hip injury, but this was his fourth consecutive appearance from the bench.Nkunku, nevertheless, will likely miss more games due to an unidentified problem that was discovered after the weekend’s match.

Due to a knee injury he suffered during the preseason, the 26-year-old has also missed four and a half months of play. Since moving from RB Leipzig to Chelsea, he has only made two starts and eight substitute appearances while wearing the Chelsea uniform.

As Armando Broja has been loaned out to Fulham, Nicolas Jackson is the only official senior striker for Chelsea, notwithstanding Cole Palmer’s occasional usage as a false nine.

During a news conference held prior to Leeds United’s FA Cup fifth-round match on Wednesday, Pochettino appeared irritated as he acknowledged that Nkunku has not yet demonstrated the calibre and reliability that characterised his time in Germany.

Pochettino on Nkunku injury: “At the moment, three-four weeks out for Chris. I hope. I hope no more…”. “It’s difficult for Chris as he was flying in pre-season before he got the knee injury. We need to see and evaluate”.
