Dan Ashworth on verge of accepting Manchester United's sporting director role

The Red Devils have already hired Manchester City’s recruitment director Berrada
According to Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle United’s Dan Ashworth is almost certain to become Manchester United’s next sporting director.
Although Ashworth has a contract with Newcastle, he is United’s top candidate for the position, and there is increasing optimism that he will be hired.
Newcastle want the 52-year-old to stay, but they worry he’s already decided to transfer to Old Trafford. After Omar Berrada was named chief executive, Ashworth would be the club’s second significant hire since Sir Jim Ratcliffe struck a deal to purchase a 25% share.
After serving at Manchester City, Berrada is now on gardening leave and is anticipated to start the position in the summer. Ratcliffe’s minority stake is almost finished after the Premier League approved the transaction.
The FA’s clearance is still pending for United, but this is just a formality, and the transaction could be formally confirmed as early as next week.

With Ashworth’s hiring, Ratcliffe and his group—led by Sir Dave Brailsford, INEOS director of sport—will take charge of all aspects of football operations.
Ashworth, who has held positions at the FA, Brighton, and West Brom, will also likely have an impact on other hiring decisions made by the recruitment department.
Brighton’s head of hiring, Sam Jewell, has a great admirer in him. Although United hasn’t formally approached Newcastle for Ashworth, they are optimistic that a deal can be made.
Although Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s £1.25 billion transaction for a 25% share in the club is still pending official certification, it was reported on Tuesday that he was successful in the Premier League’s shareholders and directors criteria. In a press release, the Premier League itself confirmed the situation.
