Aston Villa manager Unai Emery among big names linked with Bayern Munich job

Thomas Tuchel will leave the club at the end of the season

Unai Emery, the manager of Aston Villa, is a candidate for the Bayern Munich position. Georg Holzner, a reporter for Kicker, made this unexpected assertion on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The Bundesliga champions declared on Wednesday that Thomas Tuchel will leave at the conclusion of the current campaign.

Zinedine Zidane and previous coach Hansi Flick are also options for the Bavarian team, as is the manager of Bayer Leverkusen Xabi Alonso. The list of contenders now includes the man in charge of Aston Villa.

Holzner says the German champions are keeping an eye on Emery. The 52-year-old is “well known” to Bayern, he continues, having helped Villarreal defeat them under the Spanish manager’s leadership.

The reporter doesn’t say if the former coach of Arsenal is willing to move from Aston Villa to Bayern Munich.

After acquiring Emery from Villarreal in October 2022, Aston Villa finished the previous season in ninth position under his leadership.

This season, the Villans have had an amazing run in the league, currently sitting fourth in the standings, ahead of Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur. Additionally, Aston Villa are vying for the UEFA Conference League title.

They state that Emery, who worked with Aston Villa for less than a year and transformed Steven Gerrard’s relegation prospects into a possible Champions League qualification, is the second possibility of interest. Villa are also in the Europa Conference League’s final stages, and Emery, who has already won the Europa League four times, is vying for yet another continental crown.

With Villa now sitting fourth in the Premier League and Unai Emery previously being connected to Manchester United, this latest rumour won’t be out of the ordinary for a manager who signed a four-and-a-half-year deal after joining from Villarreal in November 2022.
