East Bengal’s ISL playoffs aspirations takes a drastic turn after this loss.
FC Goa returned to winning ways in the Indian Super League (ISL 2023-24) after winning a tense encounter against East Bengal. Noah Sadaoui was the difference-maker after breaking the deadlock in the 42nd minute just before the lemon break.
FC Goa started the game in an attacking fashion and created numerous chances. Noah Sadaoui, the American-Moroccan forward saw his first two attempts squandered, thanks to the solidity of Aleksandar Pantic and Prabhsukhan Gill, but made the most of the third chance, beating Gill on his near post to give hosts the lead.
East Bengal made attempts for an equalizer but FC Goa’s defense stood tall. Unfortunately for Carles Cuadrat and East Bengal, the misery continues as they find themselves ninth in the points table with four games to go in the league stage. The Kolkata giants are in a precarious position with a possibility of missing out on a playoff spot.
On the other hand, FC Goa maintain a three-point gap with fifth-placed Kerala Blasters and are just three points away from Odisha FC who lead the table at the moment. The ISL Shield race is far from over as the upcoming games will decide who among the top five teams clinch the trophy.
