The Brazilian player is currently out with an injury
Joelinton’s contract negotiations are going well for Newcastle, and the Brazil international wants to stay on Tyneside if he moves in with higher-paid players.
Joelinton, midfield player from Brazil, is “absolute priority” for Newcastle, according to Eddie Howe.Howe acknowledges that Newcastle has greatly missed the skills of the massive midfield player, who is now sidelined due to injury. The Brazilian has played both forward and midfield for United, enforcing the left side.
However, he has struggled with injuries this season, which has left the Toon without much physicality to defend the left side of the defence and at set pieces. Joelinton, a 27-year-old striker who cost £40 million to acquire from Hoffenheim as a No. 9, has evolved into a potent midfield player and has been called up to the Brazil national team. However, following Newcastle’s Champions League qualification the previous year, a number of teammates received raises and new contracts for more than £100,000 per week. Joelinton’s contract hasn’t been extended or renewed yet, though, and Howe has issued an immediate assessment of the matter.

Howe responded, “Is Newcastle’s poor league performance without Joelinton an indication of how important he is to his set up?”
“Yes, we’ve missed Joe’s qualities, especially physically, his robustness, his abilities in duels, set-plays for and against.
“We’re very lucky to have a midfielder that’s as big as he is and as competitive as he is and whenever you lose those qualities, you notice when they’re not there. He’s a very unusual midfielder, really, a prototype. You don’t get many like him and it’s certainly been missed, what he can bring.”
Now that Dan Ashworth, the sporting director, is on gardening leave and getting ready to join Manchester United, other club members will handle the discussions.
Star player Bruno Guimaraes, who is interested at PSG and has a £100 million release clause, will be equally delighted if Joelinton stays.
