Bruno Guimaraes is a new signing for the Gunners.
Arsenal are set to open their Premier League 2026-27 campaign with a home clash against newly promoted Coventry City on Saturday, August 22, 2026. Ahead of the start of his side’s title defence, head coach Mikel Arteta provided a crucial update on the injury condition of summer signing Bruno Guimaraes.
The 28-year-old midfielder, who joined from Newcastle United for £75 million, featured in Arsenal’s 3-0 win over Manchester City in the FA Community Shield 2026 final. He came off at half-time and was pictured with an ice pack on his leg.
This sparked concerns that he might have suffered a knock in the match, although neither the player nor the club provided any statements. Now, ahead of the match against Coventry, the Gunners head coach addressed the question about his new signing’s availability.
“It’s evolving well, but let’s see,” Arteta said when asked if Guimaraes would play against the Sky Blues on Saturday.
As things stand, the Brazilian will be assessed by the team’s medical staff in the coming days. It will help determine whether he will be fit enough to feature against Coventry. The Gunners are heavily favoured to secure a comfortable home win.
