The Round of 16 stage of the FIFA World Cup will end on July 7.
The FIFA World Cup 2026 knockout phase is fully underway, with 16 teams qualifying from the Round of 32. Morocco became the first team to qualify for the quarter-finals after sealing a comfortable 3-0 win over Canada in their Round of 16 clash at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas, on July 4.
After a cagey first half in which Canada were on top for large stretches, the Atlas Lions took the lead against the run of play in the second half. It came in the 50th minute, with Achraf Hakimi playing a cross into the edge of the box. Azzedine Ounahi drilled a powerful shot that picked out the bottom corner.
Ounahi scored again in the 82nd minute to seal the victory. Brahim Diaz made a darting run forward and then teed up Ounahi, who slotted the ball into the top corner. Soufiane Rahimi added a third deep in stoppage time, scoring after being played through by Diaz. The result sealed the North African side’s place in the quarter-finals, where they will face either Paraguay or France.
