Five players Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) should target in summer 2022
There are several players on the market that the club can consider recruiting.
Paris Saint-Germain loves to dominate the headlines. The club recently tied down Kylian Mbappe to a grand contract with never seen before bonuses, thereby shocking the football world. Before the 2022-23 season begins, the outfit will be making several more headlines. In particular, their moves in the transfer market will be exciting as the club looks to start with a new manager at the helm.
There are plenty of players which are suitable for the superstar profile that PSG usually signs. Winning the UEFA Champions League will be on top of the objectives list yet again for the 2022-23 season. In order to achieve that, the Parisians will be looking to recruit players in key areas. There is also a need to find replacements for some of the outgoing players.
The ongoing summer transfer window will be essential for PSG and its pursuit of superstar players. Keeping their ambition in mind, here are the five players Paris Saint-Germain should target in the summer of 2022:
Serge Gnabry
Angel Di Maria has left the club after running down his contract. The Argentine becomes a free agent and is close to signing for Juventus FC. It falls on Paris Saint-Germain to find a replacement for the winger who was very successful in his 295 appearances at the club. Serge Gnabry is one of the main targets who is suitable to fill the vacant spot on the wing.
The German international is close to leaving FC Bayern Munich. While the Bundesliga outfit is aiming to retain the player, a lucrative offer could persuade both player and the club into agreeing to the transfer.
Milan Skriniar
Reports out of France suggest that Milan Skriniar is one of the top targets for Paris Saint-Germain. The centre-back has been a vital figure for Inter Milan in recent years, helping the club to the Italian Serie A title in 2020-21. The 27-year-old is one of the most sought-after defenders in Europe at the moment and will cost around €65.00m.
The lineup at PSG has sensational options in the centre-back position. Players like Sergio Ramos, Marquinhos, and Presnel Kimpembe are already there. Perhaps adding even more quality and depth to the star-studded team is the way forward for PSG.
Renato Sanches
Renato Sanches has emerged as a target for Paris Saint-Germain in the summer transfer window. The club is looking at various options to recruit in the midfield department. New sporting director Luis Campos signed the Portuguese international at LOSC Lille during the 2020-21 season.
That was a particularly successful year for both club and player as they went on to win the French Ligue 1. The 24-year-old will cost the club around €30.00m, which is not a huge amount considering their financial might. As for Renato Sanches, the prospect of playing alongside the likes of Lionel Messi and co will be too good an opportunity to miss.
Christopher Nkunku
Paris Saint-Germain is the front-runner in the race to sign highly-rated Christopher Nkunku. The attacking midfielder is attracting a lot of interest from several clubs, including Manchester United. Despite signing a new contract at RB Leipzig, the Frenchman will be open to a move back to his home nation.
Christopher Nkunku blew apart the competition last season and became the Player of the Season in the German Bundesliga. He scored an incredible 35 goals and made 19 assists across all competitions during the 2021-22 campaign. The main obstacle in signing Nkunku will be the €100.00m asking price.
Cristiano Ronaldo
Paris Saint-Germain has made it a habit of dominating headlines in every other transfer window. From paying mind-boggling money to land Neymar and Kylian Mbappe to signing Sergio Ramos and Lionel Messi in the same window, the club has a track record of making heads turn. To stay true to tradition, the club could target Cristiano Ronaldo.
Imagine a front three of Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Neymar. That is the stuff of dreams for every football fan and the stuff of nightmares for every defender. Ronaldo has only one year left on his contract with Manchester United and could move in pursuit of UEFA Champions League football, which is unavailable at the Premier League club. PSG can easily afford Ronaldo’s wages and they have been linked with him in the past as well.
