According to reports, the German tactician remains interested to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Old Trafford.
Manchester United are going through a terrible phase in the ongoing 2021/22 season. The Red Devils have lost three of their last four Premier League games. Despite having world-class players in the squad, the club are lacking consistency and good results.
As a result, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has come under immense pressure. There is a possibility of a situation where the club decides to part ways with him to save the season. In that situation, unfortunately for the club, there are not many high-profile managers available who can stand the pressure of leading a club of this stature. However, German master tactician Ralf Rangnick has emerged as a possible option.
Here are five reasons why Ralf Rangnick could be a suitable candidate to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United.
5. Hope for the fringe players of the squad
There are many players in the MUFC squad who are not getting enough chances to or gametime. Some individual players are starving for playing minutes such as Donny Van de Beek, Jesse Lingard, Dean Henderson and Jadon Sancho. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seems to have more faith in a few selected individuals who make the team sheet despite dodgy performances. Due to this fact, players like Van de Beek are cutting a frustrated figure and could look for moves elsewhere.
Another player who falls in this category is Anthony Martial. Arrival of forwards like Edinson Cavani and Crisitano Ronaldo has pushed Martial way down in the pecking order. Ole does not seem to trust the Frenchman who is spending majority of the time on the bench. Ralf Rangnick will definitely utilise all of these options to good effect. His tactical ingenuity will lead to these players getting more opportunities to shine on the field. This is absolutely vital to keep the morale of the squad high and retain the squad depth to make a challenge for multiple trophies.
4. Brilliant tactical mindset
Ralf Rangnick comes with immense pedigree. The 63-year-old has been part of football for several years and got into the coaching side of the game from an early age. Nicknamed 'The Professor', he is credited with inspiring top German managers like Jurgen Klopp, Thomas Tuchel and Julian Nagelsmann. He is the brains behind the phenomenon of gegenpressing, which he implemented to success at Schalke 04, where he won the DFB-Pokal.
Ralf describes his tactical approach to football as “fast, proactive, attacking, counter-attacking, counter-pressing, exciting and entertaining [style of] football." This is everything Manchester United is lacking currently and the German could be the ideal replacement in these hard times.
3. Will give the players an immediate boost
Ralf Rangnick has the experience of working with both youngsters and experienced players. His arrival will lift the dropped shoulders in the dressing room. In a recent interview after the defeat to Manchester City, captain Harry Maguire indicated that the players lacked belief.
The German has a charisma to drive players forward and produce the best out of them. His approach to football is electric and will utilise the available options at Manchester United to full-effect. The shift in the mood and the energy he will instill can guide the Red Devils to a top-four finish or may even win them a silverware by the end of the season.
2. Eagerness to join the club
There aren’t many options available to replace Ole as the manager. Especially after Antonio Conte agreed to join fellow Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur.
Furthermore, Erik Ten Hag is a name thrown around a lot as a potential replacement but according to reports, he does not want to take up the job at Old Trafford. However, he was interested in the Manchester United job following the dismissal of Jose Mourinho - before the club decided to appoint Ole. Chances are, with able persuasion - the German tactician will take up the role to replace Ole at the helm of the club.
"Club building is about building the right squad by transferring the right players away and having more than 50 per cent success rate of bringing in the right players," he said to the Guardian in 2019.
1.His introduction can solve systemic issues at MUFC
Ralf Rangnick is an exceptional figure in football operations and can work wonders by working behind the scenes. One of the reasons Manchester United have lagged behind fellow competitors like Liverpool and Manchester City is due to the lack of football expertise in key decision making.
Ralf Rangnick could be the perfect candidate for the English giants. His wealth of knowledge could be vital in bringing in ideal players. A figure that compliments the club’s ethos and plays according to their identity. MUFC are suffering from an identity-crisis, unable to play attacking football and defend as a unit. These systemic issues need to be addressed from the source and this is where Rangnick could be vital.
